Tow Hitch Cover

Hi All,

My Maverick is on order and not expected for a while. I have ordered the 4K towing package. I would like to find a cover for the hitch that would prevent rust. Some offer a step on feature which would make access to the bed easier and others have a brake light as a feature. They require that the hitch pin be attached with a cotter pin . Although this will work, it is makes the installation susceptible to theft. Are there any ways to secure the cover and prevent theft ? Would like to avoid a padlock that rattles.

They make locking pins! So it will be like the one with a cotter pin but it will have a lock cylinder. It's on the Ford accessories page.

I just use a plastic plug because I can't stand the rattle.

Does the retainer fit properly? I picked my Mav up recently and there isn’t much space between the lip of the receiver on top. I have the standard class 2 option from the factory.


And is there a particular plastic plug you’d recommend for the pin lock hole?

There was a lot of talk on this a while back. While between difficult and impossible to find actual documentation, consensus is all the Maverick Hitches are of Class III variety but as the fine print always says, hitch capacity does not determine the capacity of your vehicle.

This is the one I got from Amazon like for Ten Dollars it had everything Pin ,clevis cover . Hope this helps

I like the Ford OEM cover, but after having one stolen, I now secure them with a substantial wire tie,,,,

Available on Amazon, you'll thank me later. Best design allows drainage and never moves. I live in Chicago and no ones ever taken it! Been using this one in multiple trucks for years now

I read that if you plug in a brake light hitch cover the rear cross traffic alert, if you have it, will be automatically disabled. Has anyone experienced this with a plug and play brake light hitch cover? My Mav is a 2023 Lariat with Lux package. Thanks.
