The extra detergent in top tier fuel and techron (and gumout regain, and some others) is PEA. It's not going to work miracles removing carbon build up that is hardened and baked on, but the general idea of using top tier fuel and perhaps a periodic booster like techron is to not let it get to that point.

I get the techron in bulk when it's on sale, but it would be nice if someone just sold a concentrate so we didn't have to buy expensive, single use plastic bottles. Could probably debate how effective it is for sure, but it does have some positive effects, and $5, 1-2 times a year is not a ton of money.
you can probably find an oil jobber that will sell you a 5-30 gallon drum of it. My brother bought barrels of ProLong to put in his logging equipment.

almost all gasoline brands are top tier. You have to go out of your way to find a no-name station that sells gas that ISN'T top tier.
https://www.toptiergas.com/gasoline-brands/
Probably depends on the market. Where I live only the Phillips 66 and Sinclair stations are top tier. Casey's, Amaco (they rebranded our Shell stations), Kwik Stop, another major convenience store, and all the grocery stores, not top tier. I would estimate 4 out of 5 pumps are not top tier.

Kinda dumb because more than ever, modern cars need quality fuel and oil changes to have any hope of making it to 150,000-200,000+ miles.

Just wait for them to brand various octanes as "turbo", "hybrid", and "luxury". People will put the lux grade in their econobox and swear it's as quiet as a Lexus now.

But the real geniuses will want EV grade.

While reading this thread I was wondering if one day a "Top Tier" electricity will be sold lol.

One more thing they don't have to really worry about though. I really can't wait for that tech to be perfected.

I actually never knew about the 'Top Tier' branding. I looked online and found that most of the stations in my town seem to be selling Top Tier fuel. However, I noticed that the places with the cheapest gas in town are not on the Top Tier website. Maybe for the next couple fill ups I'll make sure to go to stations selling Top Tier and see if I get any sort of performance increase.

While I am reading all of this commentary about top tier and based on the website, have visited the brands that sell gasoline with it I wonder if anyone has ever tested the gas at the pump for it. All of the gas in my area is stored. And if you hang out at a gas station long enough, you'll notice that different carriers are used. And many of the pumps don't even display the top tier sticker. In fact, at one intersection the Mobil station on one corner is 5 cents more than the Sunoco one on another.

With the exception of Sunoco, all of these carriers are independents. Can someone verify that Mobil, Exxon, Valero, etc. actually makes sure stations branded with their name actually use top tier? Keep in mind, these are stations that are front by convenience stores like 7-11, Kenyon's, A-Plus, Kwik Fill, etc.

You people on this forum are great. Seriously. There is very little nonsense here and most people are helpful. But you’re also f’ing nuts with the crap you worry about! Top tier gas!? Pull into a f’ing gas station, put in 87 octane, and enjoy your life! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚.

Back when ethanol first came out hundreds of pleasure boats had to be towed back in to Tampa and St.Petersburg Florida from the bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
It’s so called, ā€˜Detergent’ properties was disintegrating Marine plastic fuel tanks and lines of the day, clogging carbs and EFI marine engines so fast and so bad the coast guard was not able to keep up with the towing demand. It was a mess.

With my own eyes I looked down in my friends fuel tank with a flash light and again when we pumped his tank out the gas looked like it was full of pulp just like in a glass of Orange juice I shit you not !

Evidently the fuel filters could not stop the trash, odd I thought, never understood that.

I’ve never seeked out top tier. Been burning BP for 8 years now because the store manager is a sweet heart and I love her to death, and it’s convenient.

Back when I was driving 80-90,000 miles a year I burned everyfucking thing from any and every store that was in front of me.
Took a EFI 2008 Taco 2.7 Ltr 4 banger to
528,000 trouble free miles on shit fuel.
AND with 10,000 mile oil change intervals !
Yeah I had to sneak that truth in, sorry all you change your oil at 3,000 mile people.

On the rare occasions I noticed a performance problem I’d put in a bottle of Chevrons Techron and haul ass. I’d say a bottle in my gas tank every 30, 40,000 miles.

Top tier gas my ass, this old country boy ain’t falling for that bullshit.

I bought bad gas once, musta had too much water in it. Two little bottles of ā€˜Dry gas’ from STP cured it.

My Ecoboost does love its Ethanol Free In The summer tho.

In about ten years you won’t even be able to find a good mechanic. When the Gen X’ers and the Boomers are gone human kind is so screwed.

I shop by price. Low Tier burns the same for me.

Top Ramen sounds too expensive, also.
;)
In my area Top Tier fuel sells for the same price as non Top Tier
Some Top Tier like Shell offers more and better detergents in their fuels than some others

I went to an international gasoline seminar a few years ago, and they recommend top-tier gasoline which quite a few gas stations sell as well as Costco, which I was really surprised. And with this gas, you need to add absolutely no little bottles of anything because the gasoline is top rated.

Top Tier at the same price as Non T T will eliminate the need for Chevron additives, just my opinion
