The first edition wonāt be any better. Maybe a Chevy is in your future?I just found out how cheaply made the maverick is made. Today I topped a steep bridge overpass to find a huge chunk of 18 wheeler tire in my lane. Was way to late to avoid it, sounded like Iād hit a bomb. Was able to keep control and pull over at end of the bridge to look at damage. Under body protective cover half ripped from the floor pan and vapor canister dragging on road and paint chipped all along lower side panels. When I say protective cover ripped from underbody I mean ripped the studs(which look like 1/8 bolts spot welded to bottom of floor pan are ripped almost completely off and there are holes in the floor pan. Floor pan is paper thin. The protective coverās mounting holes are ripped out. Check engine light is on. Mechanic at ford dealer says likely due to vapor canister is destroyed. I do know the mounting points on canister is broke off. Amazingly. The Mav stills run fine and tracks strait down road with no vibration or shimmy as I was able to safely drive it to the local ford dealer for them to look. Estimated cost to repair $1000. There goes my fuel savings for next 2-3 years. I think my mav was mad at me because I mentioned trade for a 1st edition at a nearby dealer.
ClassicSo someone buys the cheapest truck and then complains that it's cheaply made. Good grief! Hit road debris and you're going to have damage on most passenger vehicles.
So sorry for the damage to your Maverick! As far as a tin body I think that can be said about lots of makes. My 2019 Hyundai was loaded with dings when I got rid of it. The first one happened 3 days after I took delivery. You could just breathe on it and it would dentI just found out how cheaply made the maverick is made. Good on you. But where I live it's almost never safe to just stop on highway. I always note the next exit and tell the passenger to call the highway maintenance phone number. They are usually super responsive about this kind of stuff.I used to work for a fleet of transfer dumps and it's never pretty when one of their tires blow.
See all kinds of stuff in the middle of the road where I live too. Had to stop more times than I can count and walk back to remove debris. It's pretty bad. Usually animal's though. But sometimes that's all it takes... a piece of bone or something small to cause a major accident. I refuse to be one of the drivers on the road to just pass stuff by like that. Especially on rural single lane highways. I'd rather pull off and walk a quarter mile back to the debris through the woods if I have to. Sorry this happened to you. That truck it was from should have policed their debris even if it went back a mile.
Anyways, will insurance cover you?
$1000? Consider yourself lucky! If a Hummer had hit that "alligator" chunk in the road, I bet the bill would have been more like $5000I just found out how cheaply made the maverick is made. Good point. It's been a while since I've lived in such congested areas.Good on you. But where I live it's almost never safe to just stop on highway. I don't hate the old rangers, but it seems like the maverick offers all of the desirable qualities of the ranger, affordable, reliable, good payload for it's size, easy to see out of, and blends them with car like refinement and much higher levels of performance and quality. Multiple family members and friends had rangers. They go the job done, but they were always buzzing, and popping as they went down the road, rode like a more traditional truck, which is to say not good. Plus those jump seats were awful.Well, that does not make me giggle. My Ranger FX/4 had a plate for the Xfer case and one for the gas tank and the cannister was way up in front of the spare tire above the rear axle. My wife asked me one day if I could find a brand new or super low mileage 2005 Ranger FX/4 would I buy that instead of the Maverick. Without thinking twice I would. Keep it simple stupid describes those old Rangers.
Gotcha, I just assumed you were implying the Mav was a weak vehicle due to the damage it sustained. Not complaining about out come. I was lucky I wasnāt behind whatever dropped the tire carcass. I was on I-40 eastbound and was just topping the White River bridge at mile marker 199-200. Couldnāt see the debris until right on it. Luckily I was only doing 65 instead of the posted 75.
Canāt, stop, watchingā¦ā¦.Doesn't even have to be a semi-sized tire...

Unfortunately for you the skid plate on your FX4 does not protect the charcoal evap canister. Ford really misleads by saying "skid plates" when it's just really a skid plate split into two pieces. It only fills the area directly below the engine/transmission.That is terrible, tough luck. This is the second thread I have read here recently about damage to the vapor canister. Sure glad I got the FX/4 with those skid plates. At the time I was thinking the skid plates would be valuable off road, now I am thinking just as valuable on road.
