Well, that does not make me giggle. My Ranger FX/4 had a plate for the Xfer case and one for the gas tank and the cannister was way up in front of the spare tire above the rear axle. My wife asked me one day if I could find a brand new or super low mileage 2005 Ranger FX/4 would I buy that instead of the Maverick. Without thinking twice I would. Keep it simple stupid describes those old Rangers.
I agree. One of my favorite trucks was the 3rd gen's. Starting to get pretty rare to find one with low mileage though, and unfortunately, the MPG is pretty awful. I considered going this route as well. A lot of trucks will also provide an option to add skid plates for transfer cases and such but no joy on the Maverick to replace the flimsy liners that go down the sides (yet?). The PTU, tranny, and oil pan are covered with the front plates. The carpet liners are better than nothing, so at least that's something. I hated them on my previous Escape. Actually had snow build up underneath them and had to get in there and force mount them since there was no mounting spot in the center rear of them. They literally just hung there... I heard a flapping noise while driving once and it turned out to be a sheet of ice slapping against the underbody constantly. Same with the rear wheel liners on the Maverick, literally just the flimsy carpet and you could wiggle it around with tons of play. Lots of complaints about flapping noises from them too.

...Anways, will insurance cover you?
Insurance may cover it if, "the tire tread blew off a truck directly in front of you when it had a blowout." 😉

If it is just laying in the road and you hit it, it's very possible they won't pay for it.

Re treads in the summer heat seem to be a big problem. I did commercial and agriculture tires for 8 years. So glad I quit that job.

Yea especially the wide base tires.

That sucks. I'd just say "The truck kept going, I had to stop immediately".

Super singles or 11R24.5 or the 22.5 are the most common treads on the road. Man I hated when a road tractor pulled in under the breezeway. 10 new tires sold...ahhhh Ffffffuuuuu...........

Don't have it yet, in production at the moment. Someone here commented that one of the skid plates covers the canister. Is that a wrong thought? They gotta cover something important or what would be the point? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
FX4 skid plate covers the underside of the engine bay and there's also a decently stout plate under the felt covering the evap canister.

So someone buys the cheapest truck and then complains that it's cheaply made. Good grief! Hit road debris and you're going to have damage on most passenger vehicles.

Just the outer tread of those semi tires can be pretty serious if the peel off. The damage probably has more to do with the fact it's closer to the ground than most pickups, not that it's cheaply made.

This canister is basically out in the open protected by that flimsy felt cover. It sits on left side about even with back edge of driver door. There’s 4 or 5 of those flimsy felt covers all over the bottom of the truck.

$40K isn’t cheap to me. My brand new 2019 F150 supercrew 3.5 eco 4X4 only cost me $39K and it was better equipped than my 2022 Maverick.

$40K is a tarted up $20K truck, probably with tax and delivery that doesn't really count. My 2017 F250 Superduty was only $40K, but that was pre-pandemic. Probably $50-55K now.

Skid plates?? I didn’t see anything I’d call a skid plate on my mav nor the FX4. Both had the fiber, felt covers .

Yea those truck tires can really do some damage, but the floor pans on the mav are thin. I can understand why they get totaled when rearended

I just found out how cheaply made the maverick is made. Today I topped a steep bridge overpass to find a huge chunk of 18 wheeler tire in my lane. Was way to late to avoid it, sounded like I’d hit a bomb. Was able to keep control and pull over at end of the bridge to look at damage. Under body protective cover half ripped from the floor pan and vapor canister dragging on road and paint chipped all along lower side panels. When I say protective cover ripped from underbody I mean ripped the studs(which look like 1/8 bolts spot welded to bottom of floor pan are ripped almost completely off and there are holes in the floor pan. Floor pan is paper thin. The protective cover’s mounting holes are ripped out. Check engine light is on. Mechanic at ford dealer says likely due to vapor canister is destroyed. I do know the mounting points on canister is broke off. Amazingly. The Mav stills run fine and tracks strait down road with no vibration or shimmy as I was able to safely drive it to the local ford dealer for them to look. Estimated cost to repair $1000. There goes my fuel savings for next 2-3 years. I think my mav was mad at me because I mentioned trade for a 1st edition at a nearby dealer.
To be fair, you hit a massive object that weighs probably at least a hundred pounds at highway speeds. That could and would cause considerable damage to any vehicle. If anything, the fact that your maverick was still running and driving after a massive impact like that implies it's a well engineered vehicle. My dad dealt with an insurance claim once, a woman was driving behind an 18 wheeler when the tire detached. Went through her windshield and decapitated her. Those tires are no joke.
