Only if breaking the law. I have lived here 25 years and got 1 ticket for making a u turn where the no u turn sign had been run over and was laying on the ground. I was car number 3 in line for the Henrico County police handing out tickets on that side street.
YES, only when breaking the law! and the speed limit on I-95 is 70 mph, not 71 if you have out of state plates, and they know you won't come back to court to fight it.

Probably should have ticketed this guy instead.

According to the OP "rch75" the Revenue generator was a SHE

The officer ticked my Maverick as an ā€œUNSAFE TOWING DEVICEā€ā€¦
All cause I pulled up in front of a little old lady broke down in the middle lane of I-45 and towed her Cherokee off the highway into the Bucees parking lot.
AND SHE CALLED IT BABY BLUE!
AND SHE CALLED IT A HATCHBACK!

It’s hard enough holding onto my man card driving a mini truck without an officer belittling it.

Let's talk about unsafe towing w/a strap. In TX, no less

Houston here. The Wild West of highways...every commute is a Defensive Battle Tactics type day. In the 15 months I've had my Maverick, I've been hit in the back twice. Once was crowded highway, my lane suddenly stopped and the guy behind me wasn't as good as the rest of us at it (nice guy, very apologetic, his company covered everything), and the second time early Saturday morning with sparse traffic and the guy entering from an onramp just yanked his wheel to cut across 4 lanes of traffic and clipped the backend of my vehicle. This time was messier; at first he told his insurance company that he was pushed into me after he got hit in the back by a car traveling high speed, setting off his airbags and injuring him and his passenger. I told the insurance agent I didn't another vehicle, damage to the back of his car, airbag deployment, or even a passenger, but here's some pictures I took at the scene in case I was work. Then a week later MY insurance company called and said his attorney contacted them about the accident, except this time I was at fault because I was avoiding an 18-wheeler; same story with airbags and passenger, etc. I shared the pictures with them as well. Ultimately both his insurance company and mine denied his claims; his insurance company paid for all damage (<$5k) and a rental for 2 weeks. People can be slime; I got me a dashcam now....

Did you remind her that according to the experts (Wrecked, Heavy Rescue: 401 and Highway Thru Hell) clearing the highway quickly is very important, and if she has ever watched any of these shows' she has to know they often do very sketchy things to get that done!

But seriously sometimes you have to break a rule (ok, call it a law if you want), to protect life and avoid a more serious outcome if you do nothing!

I would pay it, frame it and remember it as the time you did the right thing!
That was exactly what my thought was.

Definitely a "letter of the law" violation rather than a "spirit of the law" violation. The law is designed to prevent that wild crazy tow video from a few days ago. If I was the officer, I would have just given a warning and explained to just move it to the shoulder and stop there next time.

Not sure of the age of the OP - but older guys can do crazy crap without batting an eye ... especially if it was a chance to talk to a lady (married or not ) ;) My dad (RIP) would have used shoe laces to tow a lady with no thought of the law lol His motto was it wasn't illegal until you got caught ... I give the officer the benefit of the doubt

Cheers

…it wasn't illegal until you got caught…
It was my driving instructor that told me that!

When I was younger I used to go out for rides on my motorcycle along side an RCMP officer. He had us doing some crazy stuff like cutting over the grass on a clover leaf etc. I am pretty sure lots of it was illegal according to the rules of the road.

How far you ask?
A long way. In fact I retracted my drive in this video. Probably 2-3 miles.

There’s No shoulder on that part of I-45; and high barrier walls on both sides. It’s totally dangerous for the stalled vehicle and the mile of backed up rush hour traffic going around her.

I towed her to the first exit ramp and pulled over in the right lane of the 3 lane feeder road with the officer stopping behind us. I thought the officer was running flashing lights to block oncoming traffic which was still heavy on the triple lane feeder road.

I walked back to the little ladies window and asked if she was OK. She actually did a great job being the brake pedal for both of us.

The first words out of her mouth were ā€œcan you pull me into a parking lot?ā€ ā€œOf courseā€ I said kicking myself for being so inconsiderate to bring this lady to the side of the road miles from a parking lot or air conditioning. So I waved to the officer a ā€œcome onā€ kind of wave - ya know bending the elbow and all; and got back in my truck and began…fleeing the scene in a high speed car chase flat towing a stalled Cherokee 15 mph down to the next gas station (just kidding).

My mistake I believe was not going and communicating with the officer verbally, but I wasn’t excited about standing in traffic anymore than necessary so I just gestured and started towing again.

I suspect the officer was looking down when I waved and just looked up to see us ā€œfleeing the sceneā€. She said the only reason she didn’t call the whole department for a good police chase was because there WAS a chance I was just going to stop at the next parking lot…and I’m not totally insulted she didn’t think the Maverick couldn’t escape with a Cherokee strapped to it šŸ˜†.
At Bucees we were all shocked to see her jump out and tell us to stay in our cars because when she got behind the Jeep being towed off I-45 onto the feeder road she was actually executing a ā€œtraffic stopā€ā€¦so I guess she wanted us to stop on the freeway before we exited; and after I got us onto the feeder road, she definitely didn’t want me pulling off again to tow the little old lady to the nearest parking lot.

so you do not believe there is compensation for contacting the "proper" tower, how about now.
you cost the towing company $100-$200, also don't forget the referral fee
That’s exactly what I was trying to help the little old lady avoid, along with getting rear ended.
