When I joined, my wife asked me are there any woman in the Maverick Truck Club?
Thank you Vicky for joining. I am new to the club. I was glad to tell her, "YES".
It's very likely there are more women in here than users with identifiable female monikers. They just don't like the unwanted attention.

I don't agree though, I just put that out there as a very "if" (assembling the Maverick and Bronco Sport in Kentucky).

Ford is already deeply discounting the Escape and Bronco sport to the point where they are probably not even profitable, and this isn't the 80's or 90's where the big 3 just pumped out cheap cars that didn't sell, made no profit, and oh well. Sophisticated financial planning and forecasting models businesses use these days is what guides decisions, and what worries me most is the long range of the vehicle production supply chain has already started massive layoffs in the iron range of Minnesota. People can believe what they want, but 2 + 2 does still equal 4, and thing are not looking great.
Build what sells, not what the government tells you to sell.

Why are there no Geo Metros in our car lineup?

5K, 40 plus mpg, but.

We can't sell them here.

10K evs, yep, in China, likely illegal here.

Delivering stuff locally, what's wrong with a cheap, non highway speed vehicle?

On the other hand, high dollar EVs, are a failure, nobody is buying them in the numbers expected.

The next few years are going to be interesting.

Did you know before we has income taxes, tariffs filled the role.

We were taxing other countries to allow them to do business here.

As for the Mavericks role, build it here, pay AMERICANS, and you eliminate the effects of the tariffs, don't you?

America first, if I pay more to save our country, and jobs come back, I'll take it.
And one of the reasons for a mult-year debate on a federal income tax was the fear that it might one day reach 2% :surprised:

It's interesting you brought up the Geo Metro because of how much our society and expectations have changed since GM launched Geo and Saturn to hit back at imports from Japan. Some vehicles were badge engineered imports, they setup a joint assembly with Toyota for others, and they made some in their own plants. It was a genuine attempt to bring in new ideas and vehicles to compete though rather than just letting their market share be chipped away year after year.

I just don't see that happening now, though. People are starting to reverse course a little and go for smaller, more economical vehicles, but it's hard to see how anyone could succeed with an econobox hatchback today like the Metro that is cheap and practical; it just won't sell. I was driving a Prius C before the Maverick, and I honestly don't care much what people think of my vehicle, but it did often feel like a bit of a go-cart on the road compared to everything else.

How many here bought floor or bed mats and mud flaps? Did you buy weathertech or Maybett or some other Chinese product
Weathertech is at least double in price but made in America.
If you bought any of the others you are a traitor to this country and our fellow workers. So that being said , put a 40% tariff on those goods.
The quality of all those is the same

Costco has American flags made in USA for $33. Most waving a flag get the cheaper ones at Walmart and the like, MADE in China. LMAO

2 things are to blame, the consumer wanting cheap stuff and the wealthy business owners seeking high profits moving jobs off shore. Now we're mad at the world for taking part in creating this.

Some Tarrifs can work but not in the direction we're going and screaming how terrible the world treats us. Whaaa...

I have WeatherTech floor mats in all three of my vehicles, but I had no idea they were made here in the United States. And as for the flag I never wanted one cuz I wouldn't fly it and I never knew they were made in China.

Don't blame me. I bought the really expensive Weathertech floor mats and Weathertech hard tonneau cover. I'm happy with both of them. Mabett sells really cheap stuff, not made to last. I wouldn't buy any of that 3D printed trash they make. The other plastic stuff they sell might look OK but the material does not appear to be the most durable, based on all the problems/complaints you see on this board. Fading, cracking, poor fit, leaking...

I just retired an 85 Escort, 21 mpg, the best in my fleet, paid for, reliable and boring, solid, but leaked oil.

If a new Geo Metro was made for 10k, and got similar mileage as the originals, 35 to 40 mpg, I'd be in one before a Maverick hybrid.

Same goes for a Suzukl Samurai, or a Tracker.

I've been looking at imported Jimneys, Suzukis new tracker.

Low mile, 25 years old because of import laws, usually under 10k, again, if it wasn't right hand drive, I'd be on one, as opposed to any new SUV here.

Electric vehicles are for rich fools.

A hybrid is a sensible mix of cost, efficiency and convenience.
I have a Maverick and an EV. I do 90% of my annual miles in the EV because it is so much cheaper to operate. I bought my EV used. Because of the tax incentives for new EV’s, people are willing to part with them for cheap after a few years, leading to much steeper depreciation on EV’s, allowing you to get into a used one for a really cheap price.

I use my Maverick for camping, off-roading, towing, hauling and road-tripping. Basically leisure only.

But the EV is more aerodynamic, more efficient and waaay cheaper to operate, so the EV gets used for grinding out my daily commute, which is 25k miles per year.

EV’s are the opposite of what rich fools are spending their money on.

Gee, I wish Weathertech made a Bible. I would have purchased one from them. (I bet it would have been cheaper!)

I'm rural, we have zero infrastructure to charge, the few folks that have them installed their own chargers.

EVs, without tax breaks, and high initial costs tends to put them beyond the reach of most of us.

I don't advocate importing Chinese vehicles, but the idea they could build in Mexico, and bring an 80 mile range, 15k ev, should be showing its that type of EV we need.

The Model T EV is my idea, affordable, short range, limited if any options, limited colors, basic transportation.
