If this is true its total BS! I hope Ford doesn’t follow Toyota down this path.

The title is a bit misleading. The keyfob will work, it just won't work for remote start.

Gotta make sure to get that 10 minute ad revenue.

BMW is planning the same sort of deal… subscription based options, like heated seats, remote start, etc. You pay for them monthly and can turn various options on/off on demand.

Subscription based remote start is not a new idea. Hyundai/Kia have been doing it for years, granted there was no button on the fob. If there is a button on the fob you should not be forced to pay a subscription. Through an app is a gray area.

Now subscription based stuff like heated seats.. that's a different story.

EDIT: Toyota remotes do not have dedicated remote start buttons, rather a sequence of Lock-Lock-Lock. That's probably how they're getting away with this.

None of this is new.

Oh I certainly hope so.

I wonder where the law will come down on this? If you purchase a car in cash, it is titled in your name, and you hack a "subscription" feature..

Take it into consideration when buying a vehicle. If enough people shop elsewhere they'll change it.

Ah.......just watched a bit of this......that's Steve Lehto, a lawyer famous for auto related issues. Take the video with a grain of salt.

This is a very old video...isn't it!
The first subscription auto service that I remember is (my favorite pos manufacturer) "OnStar"
This will be our first Ford in a decade, pretty o_O sure we'll have the opportunity to subscribe to att @ $20 a month so the "complementary" FordPass will continue to work

Toyotas are the worst. Lots of people love em, but lots of people loved Hanson and Limp Bizcut too.
