I'm sure after market We'll find a way around itSubscription based remote start is not a new idea. Hyundai/Kia have been doing it for years, granted there was no button on the fob. If there is a button on the fob you should not be forced to pay a subscription. Through an app is a gray area.
Now subscription based stuff like heated seats.. that's a different story.
EDIT: Toyota remotes do not have dedicated remote start buttons, rather a sequence of Lock-Lock-Lock. That's probably how they're getting away with this.
None of this is new.
