Ford has limited control of what dealers do because state franchise laws protect the dealers. Want car manufacturers to have more control then convince the legislators to drop the franchise laws. They won't because dealers pay big money to legislators to keep them.

There are penalties by Ford for those that don't use COVP and those that skirt the process but they are not 100%. There are number of times they do it in a period of time with varying allocation reductions. Ford wants to go to a model where you order from them and the dealers just deliver and service it but that is against the law. They want to control the price charged but they can't because it is against the law. They are trying to bring about change with the EV division rules but they are getting sued over those rules.

I know my city loves car dealers. Since they take up a lot of space, they pay lots in taxes but don't use much services and they employee a lot of people. In my section of the country, many of the dealers are quite well off and politically connected.

Ford does not have much control over them since most are franchises.

I really wonder about the future of dealerships in general. Two of my friend's have had 3 Telsa's and NEVER took them to the dealership. EVER. There are no oil changes and many of the typical things a gas engine has. The only filter is for the AC.

The dealership I bought my Maverick at, my sales guy was a huge Ford nerd, Knew all the specs and details of all vehicles past and present. He seems to be the exception, not the rule.

Are dealerships going to be relevant in the future?

This is likely not true. FORD produced about 20,000+ Mavericks in December, January, and February as MY23's. There were at least 7,000 MY22 orders with VIN's that were cancelled and then re-entered as MY23's - this was done in November just before MY23 production started. There were likely as many or more MY22 orders that had already been rolled over to MY23. That's at least 2/3's of the production. Yes there have been a good number of 'new' MY23 orders produced.....

And there are a good number of those 'old' 22 orders that have not yet been built. Figuring 7,000 of the Dec-Feb orders were 'old' 22 orders is a big miscalulation.

By the measure of employees per sq/ft, acre, whatever, auto dealerships employ very small number of people compared to average.

Whatever the root cause, my guess is many and perhaps most folks would be frustrated if confronted with OP’s scenario. It’s not hard to think the worst and cold comfort even when things are on the up-and-up.

My dealer has 3 trucks on the lot 5k over MRSP --one of them includes 3 "constraint" items -2 are identical to my order except color.This is not right.

What are you going to do when the market changes and it's hard to sell cars/trucks? Will you complain that the dealers are selling under MSRP?

I'm not complaining about MSRP. its all about getting a vehicle which I ordered at asking price and put a good faith deposit on . Is it wrong to expect to receive what you contracted for?

I just looked up the website and 2 of the 3 are in transit and there is no window sticker for them .

I didn't say it would help your cause but it's not going to hurt anything either. You created this whole thread but continue to be vague. Just post the link to the dealership. There's no reason not to.
