I'm just having doubts lately. To put it into perspective, our maverick hybrid has been great for the last 18 months/10k miles, we love it. It's been flawless aside from some touchy brakes, and it doing the hybrid shudder a few times, both issues which have seemed to go away permanently after doing the relevant software updates.

But I have to say, seeing all the issues on the forums is starting to get to me. It doesn't help that my brother, who's a psychologist, says I'm very bad at what's known as catastrophizing. That's basically my brain running through worst case scenarios 24/7 and convincing myself they're gonna happen.

So I'm kind of at this crossroads, where my truck is basically perfectly reliable, and enjoyable to own aside from all the recall notices. Yet I'm becoming increasingly concerned that "any day now" I'm gonna have axle issues, or my truck is gonna die in traffic, or catch on fire. I want to go to my dealership and get the software updates done that were just discussed today to prevent the issue with mavericks randomly dying, but I'm worried those software updates will cause other issues, which seems to be the case with some owners.

I don't want to get rid of a truck that's been great to us. But at the same time, I'm tired of stressing over all the could happens. What would you do if you were me? Keep it, sell it, wait to see if it has issues?
Your Brother is correct! Smoke a bowl and relax.....enjoy life with your awesome Maverick!

Happened to me with a sports car I once foolishly felt I needed. Mid life crisis most likely but I dunno as my wife played an equal part in the decision making process.

I started reading on the forum about how rare and expensive parts were starting to get, how expensive it was to fix a known problem with the operation of the motorized top. The glass rear window falling out due to improper adhesive. On and on it went. I never had a problem with the car the whole time I had it but I just could not get over the uneasy feeling every time I got in it. I just knew something was going to break but it never did and that never made me feel any better because there is always tomorrow.

So...........in order to maintain some semblance of automotive sanity, I sold the car and never looked back. Maybe you need to do the same. There may be no cure for the disease, but there are periodic fixes. Good luck.

Do an experiment buy a $500 piece of garbage vehicle, drive it for a week. Then go drive your Maverick once. You will feel like you are driving the pinnacle of automotive excellence after that.
Or, sell your 18 year old Ranger, then wait 4 more months for your Maverick to come in. You will feel like you are in hog heaven. :ROFLMAO:

OP, you would have made a great military aviator. We stayed alive by doing exactly what you're doing. Anticipate and prepare for problems. Optimistic aviators die young.

No worries, Kev. I'll solve your problem - I'll buy that Maverick from you.
(It couldn't be worse than my '01 and '05 Volvo XC wagons with their hail damage and their weird sporadic electrical/computer problems. As I always say - good luck to anyone who thinks they might want to steal either of those cars!)

As you get older, you learn not to worry about things you cannot control. Yes the Maverick has issues, but so do all cars. Some show up within the first year, others 3 to 4 years later. We live in an age where as soon as something happens, you can google it to read about it. This can be good, but it also can create an unnecessary anxiety over nothing.

My opinion? Keep the Maverick. Fix and/or repair as needed and don't worry about it. I've purchased many a car that gave me problems and got rid of them too soon. Way too soon!!

What cars you ask? A 1969 Plymouth GTX 440- sold for $400, 1968 Ford Mustang with built 302 and racing tranny-Sold for $4,000, 1972 Datsun 510 with weber carbs, headers, and front air dam-Sold for $1,800, 69 California style bug, dual carbs, electronic ignition, headers- Sold for $1,200...............All together these cars today are worth over $300,000!!! To look back is to cry, but also, to look back is to appreciate!! Be positive my friend!!

Whoa! o_OI may have just followed your advice a little too closely.:inlove:

I post here and I'm not having issues. Imagine how much I would post if I did have issues?

Collectively, a late model Maverick seems like the least of our worries. For the unlucky owners with lemons, let them be heard and justly warrantied.

Personally, I'm enjoying my DIY mechanic time off. This is a dream compared to the hoopties I drove for 25 years.

I was in your same position. It doesn’t help that my day job has me literally making second, third, fourth options in case stuff hits the fan.

What I did to calm my nerves was bus the 10 year/100k premium care extended warranty from Granger for around $1500. It comes out to about $11/month after using my Ford points. I got the $200 deductible plan.

I really like the truck and I figure for $11/month this puts me at ease outside the 3/36 warranty period.

I don’t plan on keeping it that long but figure I’d get most of that back on a private sale when the time comes. It’s rare to have such a good warranty that is transferable.
