I tested the tailgate down back up theory with my F250 and it does let me switch the view to the third brake light camera with the tailgate down and also a trailer pano view with the tailgate down.

Sorry you didn't say anything about the tailgate being down as the backup camera is physically on the tailgate...sorry for my confusion.
I use a cheap $23 wifi dashcam powered by USB in my bed. Also works great as a doggie cam. I have it on a magnetic mount.

Is it connected real time always? Not sure if you notice any battery drain when off parked.

USB runs off the 12v "Flexbed" output. It auto turns off after some time or if your battery is low but the cameras power consumption is super low.

Here's what it looks like facing backwards.

For science I tried the 360 view in my Lariat with the tailgate open.

It technically still "works" but doesn't show anything from the rear bumper on correctly.

What if you push the button with the three lines in the upper left?? Will it give you a camera view from the third brake light like on the Superduties?

Oh, and when your tonneau is folded up and you need your rearview...

Again, if only I had known before I bought my 2025 Maverick Lariat.

Is there a Ford OEM or aftermarket auxiliary backup camera for use when the tailgate is down? Every time I go to the transfer station!
seems like it wouldn't be that much of a technical feat to make the camera sort of 'byoyant' to keep it at around 90 degrees regardless of what angle the tailgate it in. Oh, also be great if they would also implement some 'tailgate down' notification on the dash. Neither seems like they'd be overly difficult or pricey to implement and they'd have some definite benefits despite, yeah, we've survived thousands of years without having them.

Yup. Deuce and a half with full canvas! mirrors! My 51 GMC only had a driver side mirror. Not sure where the other one went. Never hit anything. Truckers hardly have any view except down the sides. Most do just fine without a camera. 360 degree camera's now??? I see BIG time increase in traffic accidents, not a decrease. Just keep staring at all those camera's and only look up if you need to see the iphone! Anyone here looking at the road?
...well, yes First Sergeant, thank you for your service.

I grew up on a farm, and my first "backing up" experience was at about 10 years old and backing a hay wagon into the barn. Note that those old hay wagons were built with front axles salvaged from vehicles, so had tongues that provided steering for the front wheels.

The more challenging task was backing up a tractor with a hay bailer and a hay wagon behind that.

All this is easy if you have great visibility (sitting in a 1950's H tractor seat), but I'd bet you couldn't do it in your deuce-and-half quite as well as I could at 10yo in my H tractor seat.

As a complete aside, I've been lusting after a bobbed deuce for years produced. by Royce Equipment. I just haven't been able to justify a use case.
