I brought my 23 Mav Hybrid in for an oil change today and to get the 3 recalls redone.
I mentioned to the service guy that my truck has gone into deep sleep mode 2x in the last month after it was driven. Asked him to take a look at it again. Last time it was in there for my free oil change the battery was replaced after they checked it.
The service guy called me and said that the issue I am having is the TCU is bad. They can't access it as there seems to be a fault and they had to order a new one. Should be here in about 3-5 days. I asked him what that meant but he was vague and I don't think he really knew. So I came on here and I did some digging. Does this only have to do with communication between the truck and the phone? I don't see how that is relevant for the deep sleep mode. Can anyone share info on this. Thanks!

I don't see how that is relevant for the deep sleep mode.
Well if it is "bad" whatever that means, perhaps the standby current draw is excessive causing a rapid battery drain. Not enough info to really draw any conclusions and my guess is it just logged a DTC which they noticed when performing the software updates.

It's relevant. In addition to communicating with your phone's Ford Pass app, Telematics also communicates with FORD, sending them all sorts of data about your driving habits, GPS coordinates, etc. It contributes to battery drain, even if it's not malfunctioning.
I, and others on MTC pulled fuse# 11 in the passenger compartment floorboard fuse panel. It disables the telematics modem and nothing else. No check engine lights or other dashboard messages will appear on your instrument cluster by disabling Telematics.

I have carefully maintained my battery and have not had any battery issues in the 8 months I've owned my Hybrid.

Has nothing to do with your phone, its the truck's systems communicating with each other.
Does your Ford App still work to remotely start your truck?
Ford app wont, remote start via fob will.

Question was for the OP to help identify how "the TCU is bad". Is it just drawing too much standby current or is it completely dead?

Now that I have a Duralast Platinum BCI Group Size 47 680 CCA H5-AGM battery and did a 2 hour drive only to receive a "deep sleep" message the following morning, I may pull this fuse till I can get someone with Forscan to up the charge level from 80 to 95%. This app is a major drain..........

It does. I didn’t at first when I got it back because it was in battery saver mode but it worked today.

I have a 2021 Ford Escape PHEV and a 2023 Maverick hybrid. Both consistently went into the deep sleep mode shortly after being parked.

The new FordPass update seems to solved the issue for both vehicles.

I just had 5 modules updated along with my oil change. A week later I brought it back with issues and they took 2 days to diagnose a failed TCU. A new one is on order, and it will be 1/2day to remove the dash and install it sometime next week.
