Hi, I installed my tailgate assist with the damper in the upper side and the arm to the bottom, I noticed you installed it the other way, maybe that's why you were having the issue, Mine is working fine after 2 months of use.
I have it installed the way you describe and I am also have the same issue as OP

You could try bending that end of the tail gate cable out so it doesn't get caught behind the tg assist.

seems like they could have engineered it a little better. Maybe have the ball socket hand a bit lower to let the OEW cable strap pivot without interference. Just saying.

I discovered that to avoid the rubbing you have to be sure that the metal plate that the rod attaches to is exactly straight up and down. Your picture shows that the bottom of the plate is jutting out slightly towards the tailgate. Mine was at first and I experienced the rubbing. Once I reposition the plate correctly my problem was gone.

Good eye. Especially in the first pic, it looks angled way toward the tailgate.

Agree-make sure when the DeeZee brand is used that you position that bracket against the contour of the bed end post.

Just did this install- Week old truck- Inside of the tailgate cable (Drivers side) already was trashed from the factory- Wrapped it with Gorilla tape- Seems like the Tequila QC isn't always awesome down south :)

Aren't we discussing soft OPEN, not close? Installed mine as per instructions with no problem.

I bought mine from Ford parts it came in Dee Zee package I found the same thing on Amazon cheaper.
Do you have a Dee Zee PN? I see several on Amazon, and they say it doesn't fit the Maverick.

Thanks for the info! Looks like they're sold out now, but good to know.
