Tailgate Open Notification?

Does anyone know of a way to get notification of the tailgate down when you put the vehicle in drive.
Much to my own stupidity I have unintentionally left my gate open leaving somewhere and have lost a few valuable items!!

Anyone got any ideas??

On our F250 we use a chain with "D" rings on both ends connected to both the tailgate and bed tie down to keep it from being fully deployed while traveling. Only opens about 6".... saved our tailgate and junk inthe trunk many of times due too accidental remote fat finger..

I personally know if my tailgate or hood is open but technology today allows you to confirm things are in the correct position example “door ajar” so you can install magnetic or proximity switches on the tailgate or hood to verify their positions Ring has accessories that will provide you with a alert on your phone if the contacts like a window is opened this can be as simple or complicated as you want - these switch positions can be sent to a light or audible alarm in your cab.

Yep , done that. Used a magnetic door sensor we use on doors for the alarm. The sensor closes when the tailgate is down ( magnet is across from contact) and opens when you close it.put a light anywhere on the dash or the upper console to get your attention

Put the gear shift into R. This will activate the rear-view camera and Bob's you uncle.

Tailgate was not my problem...driving for an hour forgot my trailer was attached...and backed into my self when backing up....GEEEZ! $980 in fender repair. I use these all the time - attached somewhere near the steering wheel to remind me of something. Also use it to remind me to take off trailer hitch ball.

This is the style of device I'm looking for. Something I don't need to remember to do. Like remembering to close the gate in the guest place!!
We all get distracted once in a while and forget the obvious!! Lol

The contact is a wide gap, gives you 4” of play. A normal contact is around 3/4” . When you shut the tailgate, the magnet is to the side and shows open. You can put the switch side on the bed. I have some extra lights on the tailgate so I ran a 6 con cable to it. Also just use 3M black hi bond tape to mount them. The light on the front is an addressable cob LED strip. Uses a 3 input driver for other function
