Ever since installing my tailgate assist, every time I open the tailgate, the support gets hung up on the assist in the tailgate doesn’t drop all the way down. It’s starting to wear on the support cable for the tailgate. Is anyone else having these issues? Any advice?

That's because you have the part that mounts to the bed itself installed incorrectly it should be vertical and line up with the indent on the bed.

Look at the difference between yours and my fully opened and partially closed photos you should be able to tell the difference and how you've got yours installed.

I had that exact same problem at first. I found if I rotated the upper ball mount so that the ball is in front of the cable and tighten it down real well the problem went away. Additionally I was thinking about pinning the bracket in that position but that would involve drilling a hole through both the bracket and the truck. If it stays put without drilling I would rather not drill holes in my truck.

Here’s pics of my install of the rail gate assist. Seem like your assist ball catch is too far forward.

This is great. Yeah, as many of you thought, it looks like overtime. The weight of the tailgate on the base plate of the assist had pulled that mounting point forward. Hall loosen that screw and then tightened it hard harder. Thanks for the help.

I've had mine installed since June and use my tailgate daily it hasn't moved a bit. Probably just didn't put enough torque on it when you retighten the bolt.

I used these torx adapters along with my torque wrench for install.

This is what is so great about this club and its members. Where else would you go to get advice on this, right?

Have the same problem, but the cable does not pass the ball everytime I close... Happens maybe 25% of the time. Will have to check and see if I can tighten more.

Yup... Did remove the opener... Just sometimes pass the ball socket and gets behind... other times, stays on the outside of the ball socket.

Did you take the tie down (bottle opener) off the tailgate? That may cause an interference with the cable when closing.
Ya, Remove the "Bottle Opener" and align the "Ball" to a lower postion...
Installed mine, about 2 years now.. NO ISSUES..
