****Update**** if you are using the 13.2 in escape screen make sure you get a apim from the same model year 23 or newer. We have found that the older ones don't have the firmware for the screen installed because the screen wasn't introduced till 23. So for a example a 21 f150 apim will not display properly on the 23 escape screen

Sync 4 model 2023 already purchased.
I still need to buy the cables and wait for everything to arrive before starting the experiment.

Did you get your screen working? I ordered everything and am waiting for the stuff to arrive. I found a screen plus APIM set from a wrecked 23 Escape on eBay. Ordered the power cable + screen cable from ford parts and pass through on Amazon. I’m hoping the pass through wiring harness isn’t too hard to modify.

Yes. I even got another APIM that wasn't cracked. In forscan I get error code U0162. I checked all my wires with a multimeter for continuity. Could it be a forscan setting in the apim?

Edit: fixed it. The 6 pin cable that goes from apin to the screen had damaged shielding. Some aluminum foil fixed it.

So I'm all done. Thanks to everyone in this thread. I started out with a XLT so I had to combine this tutorial with the one about adding sync to the XLT. I also went with a 12" Transit screen instead of the 13.2" escape screen. I prefer the taller more square aspect ratio. The only thing is it's just a tad smaller than the original radio cutout so it leaves a small gap. I plan on filling the gap with sugru unless someone has a better idea. Thanks again to everyone.

Agreed I like that it’s centered.

@Momo you have an XLT hybrid, if you ever get some time maybe try to do a DIY write up on this, I really like that centered 12” screen plus it doesn’t duplicate the HVAC controls etc like the other one. Really nice job.

i just followed the instructions from here and from here. Billzill15 got rid of the HVAC buttons after his first post as can be seen here. you just gotta follow the forscan programing in the first post.

the 12" screen is used in the Bronco and F-150, maybe other models now. they got it before the Escape (and now Maverick) got the 13.2".

edit: and you're right, the mount is completely different in those vehicles for the 12". they are inset in the dash, and have trim all around. they don't sit on top like the Escape and Maverick 13.2".

I would not try to adapt a 12".

I just did this mod with a 12" transit screen.

Pretty close tho its a bit smaller than the actual cutout. you can see how it turned out on mine over here.
