Sunroof built in deflector

Can't find the answer to this one,,

some cars come with solid wind deflector with this sunroof, other cars like the maverick come with a mesh net.. im just curious why they go with mesh/net type of delfector?

they are such a pain to clean.

is there a way to upgrade to solid deflector?

You can always add a universal deflector (I believe this is the correct size, but I would double measure)

The mesh works great. I don't think converting it would make it function as well and the mesh is easy to clean with soapy rag and only once every couple months. I use it daily.

Two related things: the solid one deflects all the air, an has a lot of force on it at highway speeds causing premature tearing. The mesh lets more air and provides less resistance.

Also, the point isn't to block the air, but rather to break it up in a way that reduces noise. I suspect that a solid deflector would create a new noise at its edge! (which might or might not be worse than the one the deflector is trying to ameliorate)

Solid is superior to mesh in my experience. Actually deflects air to improve enjoyment of the sunroof. Decreases noise, compared to mesh. Mesh is dirt and bug collector.

I looked in to buying a plastic sunroof deflector, but none would fit since the metal shield that pops up would be in way....and the metal deflector does an excellent job of deflecting wind and noise.

I think you are not gonna believe the black rubber road dust that comes off on the soapy rag, lol
