You can turn on the dash widget that will show you WHY the auto s/s isn't engaging.

Mine wasn't working because the truck would tell me it's in deep sleep mode and it's been to the dealer 3 times now for this issue.

For me I don't even know if I want it but the truck is not working to spec and I want it working as designed. A SMALL issue is also the dome lights won't come on if the key isn't turned on, this annoys me to NO END.

The first 2 dealer trips were "your truck is fine, your battery is fine" and "we reprogramed this and that" but none of that worked.

Today they said they are replacing the battery. I don't think this will do it but we'll see.

Thank you for your reply. I feel the same way. It is feature on a new vehicle and I want it to work like its designed to.
Agreed, it is a feature and it should work and you are right to demand that it works as intended.
Mine works (in the rare case I forget to disable after starting the truck). I hate the feature

I always turn it off. Think it can be disabled in Forscan also there is a device that goes behind the OBD2 port to disable this feature.
Do you have a pointer to the Forscan program for this?

I'm guessing the feature is there to reduce emissions and increase mpg. Since disabling ASS is a trivial exercise, I don't see what the fuss is.

like others have said, there are a ridiculous amount of parameters of which the stop/start will not work. I believe on this forum someone posted a screenshot or something with all the variables that will cause it to not activate. (too cold, not up to operating temp, have climate control setting on...like the ac or something....and on and on)... but a trend seems to be possibly a bad battery or (and this annoys the crap out of me)... you do not drive it long enough for the vehicle to fully charge the battery.

I took mine in during its recalls to be completed (and an oil change) and had them look into it. The dealership put it on the battery testing machine that takes a few hours to fully "test" the battery and charge it/run it out of juice, charge again, etc. (or so I was told). pretty much the result was that the state of charge (SOC) was too low and just needed to be charged up.

This is a common thing to hear with Ford and the auto stop/start. That local drives around town are not enough and you need a good 1+hr drive here and there to top the battery off. No exact word on how long of a drive, or how often you need to do it, but when the truck notices battery level low, stop/start is deactivated.

After I told them that it was not stop/starting and they did the battery check, and charged it, it has been working ever since (2 weeks now). but knowing I do not drive long enough frequently enough, I am expecting to have it just stop working one day and then realize I need to do a nice long drive or plug it into a trickle charger.... if I really want the stop/start feature working again.

A lot of people on here state they do not like the stop/start, and I do not mind it at all, I just hate having a feature on my new vehicle that for some reason isnt working. I want them to find out if its due to something being bad/broken, or its in working order and I just need to drive it a fair distance once in a while...type of deal. So now after they looked into it, charged it, and its working again, I for now know its an issue of me not putting in long enough drives...which is very annoying.
I put a Noco g5 on my 2022 hybrid every 8-10 weeks. It will take 36-48 hours to fully charge using under hood pins. Then an additional 24-36 hours to finish it's optimization routine. I think it takes extra time due to the periodic drains taking the top off away. In any case I have 30k miles on one 2022 I started driving 3/9/2022 never a no start.

To answer the question (poll)...
2. I turn it off, on starting the engine the first time...
My 2022 XL ECO has the original battery for 19 months, now. Always turn off the S/S, just before i turn the radio on...
I am planning to start checking the batt voltage, since a friend who has a 2018 Exped, was told by his mechanic to change them out every two years. (To avoid getting stranded in yhe boonies). This is my first vehicle that is more computer (digital) than a abbacus (analog).. personaly, i liked my abbacus... ;)

The warranty on a 99.9% pure lead battery with a steel case to help keep plate expansion down designed for up to 10 year life is reduced to 24-36 months if used in a start/stop or fuel injection vehicle. Good prevention is good battery maintainer.

Here's a spread sheet I got from one of the other Forum members, its pretty good for all kinds of things. I haven't tried anything yet since my vehicle is fairly new but will definitely look into this when i get more familiar with Forscan. There is quite a bit of info on this Forum about Forscan and I'm loading up. Good luck.

Well as i said 19 months.
I drive only about 100 miles a week..
2 miles a day round trip for work.
60 mile trip to another county, every Tuesday. And the rest around town.
Only anomaly that i have experenced..
Back in June, truck sat for 8 days. Dash lights worked, but interior lights did not..
I took it for a spin on the expressway for 12 miles. Everything normal since...

Why buy and install a 3rd party add-on if you can turn it off in Forscan?
In my case (at least at the time): no Forscan license, no OBD2 cable, no Windows computer, and no desire to mess with Forscan prior to the warranty being up anyway.

All of those reasons are addressable in theory, but the add-on can be removed in 30 seconds if needed... Somewhat faster than reverting a truck back to as-built condition in Forscan.

That would be a be a blessing for me! I have to turn it off every time I start the truck!! Hate that feature!
Just what do you hate about it? Just curious. If it doesn't work properly I understand. This feature has been out a long time. Don't hear of any massive amounts of starters going bad. Auto Start/Stop is a great idea but the implementation by the car companies is a joke on many models.

There should be a way to disable this feature without having to use forscan to do it! The amount of gas you save is minute versus over working the starter! Plus having your battery drain every time you stop!

Have a 2020 Escape 2.0 Titanium. Since the Maverick is based on the Escape, we probably have the same system. With my stop/start.... I have no clue when it will work and when it won't.... Sometimes goes a full week not working, them miraculously it will start working again. No help from dealer, saying that there all sorts of requirements for it to work... Nothing to do with the air conditioning as mine will shut down even with the air running, though it may kick the engine back on if it is a fairly long stop. My 2024 Maverick Lariat is on order (ordered last august) with still not build date. Salesman says will probably roll to a 2025... So... who the hell know when I will get it.
It isn't whether the air is running. It's actually whether the cabin has reached the desired set temperature, AC or heat. Same behavior.
