I installed Kicker DS speakers for my Kicker Key 200.4 amp, and the speakers can't handle the power when I turn up the input/volume. Gain is set all the way to zero. Sounded pretty good at first, but I'm pretty sure I was having too much fun with it and damaged the speakers.

Are there any recommendations from the hive for bulletproof speakers that might be able to survive songs with heavy bass and some volume (just door and rear pillars)? Didn't think such a tiny amp would be overkill.

Not speculating in your situation, but driving the amp to the point of clipping can kill any speaker.

What was the volume on the infotainment set to? Is it possible the Key 200.4's gains were not set high enough, requiring a higher input signal (that was clipping)?

Kicker ds line are made for factory replacement running off the stock radio if you’re going to be amplifying the speakers you should be using this CS or the upgraded KS series
