This doesn't appear to be a Ford-specific problem.

Since the year 2000, almost all car manufacturers started using the soy-based wiring insulation.

Sorry...I guess most car manufacturers use soy based wire coatings. I'm spaying the engine compartment with rodent repellent. So its not only Ford.

Yea I heard Tesla uses the same soy based wiring and the Rats love it. Someone needs to come up how to rat proof your truck

Very true all makes use vegetable based plastics for the enviros. Some of the smarter ones add a bittering agent to make it not desirable to eat. But when rats get hungry they will chew through anything steel or even concrete.
Believe it or not some wood shavings soaked in coyote pee or badger pee hung in the engine bay works in heavy rat infested areas or up to just fabric softener sheets. Especially in the winter time they love warmth of the engine. So even if they dont eat your wires they will pee and poop all over your engine in the winter months.
Parking nose out vs nose in makes somewhat of a difference as they will be exposed entering and exiting the engine bay via the rims.
when the car or truck faces the garage or wall they are less exposed during their entry and escape.
My neighbor just leaves the hood open overnight so they dont make a home in there.

I wasn't aware of this information. But according to the few random articles I read, it seems all manufacturers are using wires with soy-based insulation, and have been for 10 or more years. It seems like the horse (er...squirrel) is out of the barn on this one. I can't imagine the practice will change unless one or more manufacturers loses one of the class action lawsuits.

We just have to stay vigilant. Looking under the hood of the hybrid there are lots of tasty wires!

Yeah this is a problem with all modern vehicles. Esp if you live rural. Best defense is not let it sit too long anywhere warm and sheltered. The repellent techniques mention above work too
