Because you spent 65% more on your truck than the base model, you think you should get better paint? Regardless of the cost of your truck, this is the cheapest truck on the market by a significant margin, there aren't very many cars overall that are cheaper. Now, this isn't an excuse - I'll be mad if my truck has paint issues from the get-go - but it is a budget truck; period.
I love the people who think because they optioned out a 20k truck they get better paint. Sorry, you don't have a 38k truck. You have a 20k truck with 18k of options. The manufacturing process gives every single body the same exact paint job, anything else would be inefficient.

Does that same thought process apply to f150s base models(30k)next to a limited(+70k)or a lariat(+60k)?

Who cares? We're talking about the Maverick here. Do you want to compare the Maverick paint job to the F150 paint job? Ford invests so much more into F150 production, it's their bread and butter. If you want to compare the paint job of an F150 XL to a Maverick XL, XLT or Lariat, I'll gladly bite. I can tell you without a doubt that the F150 XL paint is far superior.

That's fair and i would not be surprised at all if the 150 gets a little more love than than all the other models.

My point is just that this whole xxxxk price truck with xxxxk add is still only a base price truck is repeated alot on this thread/community.

This isn't forgiving the lack of paint quality, i just find that mind set odd.

Side note: if there is a legitimate comparison of the two i would love to see/hear it. I'm sure most others would as well

If applying ppf, can it be applied immediately after taking delivery or should I let the paint cure for a few weeks first? I'm wondering if/when I remove the ppf years from now, will it pull away or damage paint that didn't have adequate time to adhere.

-For this situation, I am assuming I take delivery shortly after the Maverick is built. If the completed truck sits in Hermosillo for a couple months awaiting chips then my question is moot.

when I receive mine I plan on getting the full truck wrapped in a clear bra film. then maybe a ceramic coating over that. this being my first new vehicle I want it to look as good as possible for as long as possible

Why? If I had to guess the paint job on the F150 is the same throughout the lineup. My brother has a 5 year old F150 XL and the paint on it is amazing still after 5 years. Expecting that on a 20k truck seems kind of silly. Even his XL base price was right around 40k. There's still quite a bit more margin there than there is in a 20k Maverick. The paint job is priced to be profitable on the lowest trim so essentially on a Lariat you're getting an XL paint job. I'd love to take an ultrasonic coating thickness gauge to both the Maverick and the F150 but I don't have one and the good ones are pricey. I'd be willing to guess that the F150 paint job is far superior considering the paint on my brother's F150 after 5 years which on the front end is nearly perfect with no noticeable rock chips.

I am feeling better about the Santa Cruz the more I read about the many issues surfacing w the Mav... I was sooo excited; I will leave the orders in place.
I still like the Maverick issues over the transmission failures of the Santa Cruz.

No… I would expect the same level quality of paint at 19$k nothing but a shell and motor. It isn’t about how little or how much extras… but whether $9k-$100k why should a new “vehicle” not come with standard quality paint… shit they took enough cost cutting corners. Again, I think it’s rude, and pretentious, to be like “you get what you pay for” “it’s a budget truck” “it’s cheap” you should have got xyz model/brand/type… no, just no… make it right or don’t make it at all! The paint is thin and soft… there is an issue I believe that we will have to wait on and see how it goes…. But yes, the fuss wasn’t over me paying 33k$ vs 19$k and expecting better paint that’s silly!! My argument is no matter the cost of this truck the pain shouldn’t be an issue, also, the idea that this is a budget truck isn’t true… i mean if it were a budget truck mine would of been $20k as built…. Hell the fully loaded maxed out lariat would of been $20-25$k if we are talking budget! I once had a new Hyundai $12k something bucks… super cheap super budget and yet it felt like it was a very pricey well made vehicle…. I just don’t get budget truck?? Even with a base xl nothing on it like nothing… still isn’t cheap to me? Maybe it’s cause I have worked hard for the things and money I have? I guess maybe I am wrong and just cheap and think things should still be priced differently? But I will end with this.. I paid what I paid $33,500.00 I expect it to be one damn fine automobile! I have had every kind of auto… I have a 2016 Kia Soul new from factory fully loaded $22k it now has 76k miles I drive from Indiana to illinois for work everyday with all types of road bs and have one small scratch on the front corner hood….!??

Ford undercut everybody at pricepoint. Its only logical competitor starts at almost $5k more and has issues of its own. I am not sure where the corners were cut, but they had to be cut and paint might be one of them. There are issues with every single new vehicle model, I'm not sure paint is one of them (because I don't have mine yet), but it wouldn't be a surprise. At this pricepoint, paint is about at the bottom of my list of worries.

Yes, I will agree with that! I prefer powertrain, drivetrain, and safety features be the money spending areas for sure!!!

When you talk about the quality of the paint from one car to another it’s about processes and thickness. There are plenty of cheap cars that have great paint jobs after 10 years. Even a thin paint job shouldn’t have these issues if the process is completed correctly. Either something in their mix or their application is wrong at this factory. The idea that the paint is chipping because you bought $20K truck is silly. The Bronco Sport has the same issues. Ford should fix these under warranty and resolve the issue at the factory.

There is not some cheap paint solution they put in place that is causing this issue on these vehicles vs F150 or other vehicles. If two different vehicles coming out of the same factory with paintproblems, one would tend to believe there's an issue at the factory. With enough people reporting it to Ford they're bound to do something. I know there was a paint recall on my Dad's 04 Ranger because the paint was failing so this might the same with the Maverick.
