Yeah Ford says use M6 bolts in all their documentation for the DIY bed rails - it's actually M8 tho.

The tailgate threads likely use the same M8 bolts

The holes are on either side of the tailgate,3 near the top and 2 at bottom.

M8 on all except the furthermost front holes for the side rails (if installed) which is M6
Mine are all M8. The cubby bolts are M6. On mine anyway.

I used these to install some D rings and they were a perfect fit

They may be M8, but the M8-1.25 bolts I bought at Tractor Supply don't want to thread in. Looking at the hole, it looks like a finer thread. I plan to try M8-1.00 bolts, and will try to remember to report back.
UPDATE: M8-1.25 bolts do fit, it just takes a little extra force to overcome the paint in the holes.

Seems like everyone has different bolt sizes. On my 2024 XL, the missing hook style tie downs on the upper bed wall near the tailgate was M6 for sure. However, the D-Ring tie down holes near the cab on the bed floor were M8x1.25. Well at least they are now. I had to drill out the M8 holes with a *** drill bit. Otherwise you can't tap them. I think these holes were designed for a special automotive self taping bolt.

After drilling with the *** bit, either an M8 tap or a 3/8" tap will work.

The four side rail bolt holes were already tapped on my truck.

One thing to watch out for is that the gas tank is under the D-Ring mounts on the bed floor. I have read reports of people drilling into the gas tank and making a mess so be really careful if you drill there.

*** Edited: Don't drill out for an M8 bolt using a 5/16" drill bit. It is too large. See below.

There was a recall on a range of early vin #'s where some mavericks were built with holes drilled in gas tanks during being built.

I have to correct myself. A 5/16" bit is too large for an M8 bolt. As soon as I tried to tighten them down, they stripped out with minimal force. I'm going to try to re-tap as a 3/8" bolt, and if that doesn't work, nuts on the bottom.

I believe those are sized for an M6, but they aren't tapped. The ones along the bed rail are M8. Ford has a tendency to use untapped holes so make sure you either use the proper thread-cutting screws that Ford uses or tap them yourself.

For the D-ring bolt holes on the bed floor, those are too large for M6 bolts on my truck. And too small to be tapped for M8. They have to be drilled, but 5/16" is too large. The correct drill size is 6.8mm if you have metric drill bits, or 17/64" if you have standard bits.

All our questions are answered here as all the tie downs get added.
I do hope the '25 holes are all the same size since I also want to do this on my new toy.
The side ones first

and the bigger ones up by the cab.
