AM radio can be handy in an emergency.
For sure! Beyond that though the ads take up almost 50% of the time on music and talk radio. I'm pretty spoiled with downloaded music and podcasts that I can listen on my own schedule. To each their own!

Back in the CB craze, I had dual bumper mounted antennas on the back of my 57 chevy coupe that would drag on the canopy over the bank drive-thru. So I totally don't understand stubbies.

I remember that craze. It lasted as long as the disco craze

Yeah, everyone soon learned when you let everyone talk, you realize how many stupid people there are in the world. Kinda like comments on youtube.

I have a stubby antenna on our Maverick. I don't notice any difference, but, I'm listening to strong local FM stations, no AM.

Hey, I have a Baofeng!

I have wondered the same thing myself. It sorta' seems inevitable, but many of those owners may live in urban areas that have lots of choice in radio stations. Out here in the corn and soy bean fields one needs decent radio reception if one doesn't want to listen to "Local Yokel Radio" as a steady diet.
I live 16 miles from D.C. and the reception with the stubby is bad here too. With a stubby, You gotta crash into the radio tower to get good reception. I use a stubby only in summer when the roof rack is installed.

I'm only worried about it prevented connected services - straight up even know how to access the AM/FM radio on my Maverick. If they had angled it further back or just kept it in the shark fin is be fine with it.

I stream most of my music from Pandora but that won’t work without cell reception. I would think satellite radio would be worth having if you travel a lot
I have been enjoying the “initially free” XM satellite subscription but honestly, I only listen to 2 stations on it (Bluegrass and Outlaw Country). When the free trial period is over, I’m definitely Not renewing for $30 a month. With sync 3 and my cell phone I’m listening to iHeart stations for free much of the time anyway.

I’m glad the question was asked about the stubby antenna. Sounds more con than pro on people’s responses. I will just keep unscrewing the weirdly long stock antenna whenever I go thru the carwash.

I wonder if those that have tried that nubby radio antenna on Amazon has noticed any difference in reception
I installed a stubby on my 2004 Jeep Wrangler it was horrible my solution was to install SiriusXM Radio same solution with my 2025 Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid looks cool but it lack performance

I wouldn’t say it is linear but certainly the most important length of an antenna is at the base.
Right, Off the top of my head, I figured a loss in a city at 75-90% In the open like the Bonneville salt flats 60%. Length would not be as important as say, height. At the FM frequencies range would be,
30 miles, curve of the earth stuff. Antenna length would be far less Important.

At the base, The Grounding plain.

I had a lifetime subscription to XM Radio when I had my 2010 Taurus and listened to mostly channel 17. They have changed the programming since then and I really don't find much on there I like. They stopped offering the lifetime subscription too. You can get just music for $.9.99 a month but Pandora is ad-sponsored and free. I have Amazon Prime so I get some Amazon music too. Then I have a library of MP3s on my phone. So I am not willing to pay even $10 per month for XM but I think only the Lariat comes with that option anyway. Until the 25s.
