I have a stubby antenna on our Maverick. I don't notice any difference, but, I'm listening to strong local FM stations, no AM.

Hey, I have a Baofeng!
AM always had a longer range but no stereo and it doesn't sound as good and cuts out under overpasses.

I mainly listen to Amazon or Sirius however, when I do tune in, the FM seems to be fine. If they weren't so cheap, I would have skipped the stubby all together.

Simply amazing how far AM reaches under good conditions. With cell phone towers everywhere now, and Android Auto/Apple Carplay, and streaming music, less people listening to radio.

it should be kept for emergencies like weather. AM has a longer reach but with more static.

I agree. Up north here on the prairies, AM used to be all you could pick up driving between the bigger cities, driving cross country. I have gotten into playing with radio DXing, shortwave (damned near dead) and AM, and it just amazes me picking up distant AM stations. Last night could pick up St Louis, Chicago and Toronto from Winnipeg. Antennas make a BIG difference.

This is my bedside radio!

Edit... should add, I went with a stubby antenna because I thought the stock long one is too easily damaged, and it looks dorky.

I had a Siltronix 2011d back in the 70s. That fad died fast

I wonder if those that have tried that nubby radio antenna on Amazon has noticed any difference in reception
I have an Outlander Sport 2020 with a "fin" antenna and now with my 2024 Maverick have much greater reception. I live in rural PA.

I bought the stubby and it looked fine. Locally it worked as the original did, OK. However when we hit the road thru the country, mostly Indiana, it was not so good. I shelved it and put the original back on.

I changed out the longer OEM antenna for a stubby based mostly on fear of breakage in an auto car wash situation. I also have to admit, the longer antenna gave me a "Radio Controlled" vibe to the Maverick. My driving is all urban. so pulling in local stations hasn't been a problem.

I cannot understand how a shorter antenna looks less dorky,
Or how the stock one looks dorky.
I’ve had these roof top antennas for years now, never damaged one.
I go through car washes all the time.

I tried two different stubbies. Returned them both. ( I live in a metro area.)
