ford could really make it customizable by adding a USB port up there that actually has data from the computer. Then they could make a killing with accessories that plug into the usb port. They could program it to have all the vehicle data available (temps, pressures, speed, etc.) and then sell gauges and gauge packs that plug into the usb and display the data. Or, have a more expensive option that is basically a programmable lcd screen that you can choose different gauges and layouts.
Either way, they need 12 volt power up there to make it truly customizable. Or at least a plugged hole so I don’t have to drill.
Yes, totally. I would love being able to monitor speeds, temps, pressures, and watch the O2 sensor cycle. It gives me an illusion of control over my world. The wiring diagrams show a power connector up in the dash behind the HVAC control that's similar to the one by the tailgate. Some day, if I live long enough, I hope to find it. Getting a mating connector might or might not be a problem.

Clearly not beloved, Lol. A cubby has it's place for sure but this one has always struck me to have been an afterthought. As in,

Mgr: "The bean counters say we can't use the 10" tft in this gen of the maverick. We have to use that feeble 8" so we're going to have to reconfigure the top part of the dash.

Design engineer: "No way. Lets just make an opening to the right so we can add the 10" in a few years when they come to their senses."
My thoughts exactly 💯

I hope it's possible to swap into my '24 XLT. I realize it will mean upgrading to Sync 3 or 4 but I'm totally willing to do so. The cubby looks like a last-minute cost-cutting measure by Ford.

From what I've observed it is mostly used as a shrine to childhood hero's, alter-ego's or hobbies that we only wish we had more time to spend doing.

Oh, and poor fitting dentures that you can't wait to get out of your mouth the first second you're all by yourself. ;)

Cubby holds my phone. I like it right there. I don't want a glitched out info center where my heat and AC can be compromised. If you screen wigs out you be SOL.

Anyone have the wiring diagrams for that? Or link to a video on how to access? I am going to drill 🤮, and I would like an easier spot to tie in.

Has anyone looked close at the cubby? It was definitely some ill formed thought (like FITS) to have module parts to fill it. There is a small hole at the bottom center (maybe the top too) that is definitely meant for a retaining tab. They probably abandoned it like they did the FITS.

With the spy photos of the next gen Maverick, it looks like Ford is getting rid of the beloved (and highly controversial dash cubby) in favor of a larger infotainment screen. I say we ban together and start a write in campaign to stop Ford from removing this awesome unique Maverick feature before it is too late.

Who is with me!
I want both

I bought one of those plastic inserts but it didn't fit, so it remains an empty hole. Considering the many other USEFUL design features throughout the truck, I'm not sure what Ford was thinking. I've been able to add all kinds of things to make use of attachment points. Wouldn't have minded if something so useless was in the bed or under the rear seat, but it is right there staring me in the face on the dashboard. I may try another insert matrix thing, but I will just wait before spending more money.

My scanner is down so I will try to describe it to you. I'm not near the truck now so this description may suffer. This info is for the 2023 model. There are 4 general power destinations on the Horn/Cigar Lighter page. The system appears able to control them in pairs, although this capability may not be used by the software since all accessory power seems to go on and off together.
Controlled by CH04:
- The "hackable" power points hidden in each side of the bed by the tailgate are on F34 (20A).
- The power outlet socket on the back of the console (back seat) is on F33 (20A).
Controlled by CH08:
- The USB charging port on the back of the console is on F139 (5A)
- The front power point on the dash below the HVAC controls is on F32 (20A).
This front power point is starting to sound a LOT like the lighter socket to meeee. Like the power outlet on the back of the console, it uses 2 of 3 pins in a T-shaped connector. Wires on this front power point are AWG 16, with the +12V side colored Green w/ Violet stripe, and chassis ground is Black with a Blue stripe. That's all I have for you. Hope it helps.

Never mind that, let's dump all the "infotainment" and electronics. A decent engine, carb'd, a good 5-speed manual... aw hell, time to shop for that '91 Isuzu pickup I once had...

Is that Isuzu big enough to haul your large rear projection TV and analog stereo equipment home? :)
