I was actually looking at them today. The power they make is pretty nice. Definitely beats the Maverick in that department. And I don’t think it looks bad. I kinda like the styling on the outside. But it does need to be lowered with a more aggressive stance. That and some aero would make it more appealing. The interior looks great.

I wanted a santa cruz before I ordered a maverick. I was sold by the hybrid powertrain and value proposition of a fwd hybrid xlt, which is what I ordered.

If it looks like I won't take delivery by end of year, I may purchase a santa cruz limited. If it looks like I won't take delivery until spring, I will almost definitely switch (assuming there's stock for me to buy).

I would enjoy driving a sc because it appears to be a good product with a robust powertrain and I have good experience with the brand. I would enjoy owning a maverick bc of the value it represents. Different reasons for being happy but I think I'd be equally happy with one vs the other

Seems kind of a bold comparison statement about a truck nobody has driven? The power to weight of the Santa Cruz is 4164lbs/281hp = 14.8lb/hp. The Maverick is 3750lbs/250hp = 15lb/hp. That is comparing AWD numbers - FWD maverick will be better than the Santa Cruz. I highly doubt Hyundai will be making any FWD Turbos...and apparently their ordering process is really just wait and see if the dealer gets one that might sorta fit what you like? They are not doing the full exact spec build process that Ford is doing for us, which is a HUGE plus to get exactly what you're looking for!

I am sure the interior is great (had cooled seats once...a treasure those are!), but it doesn't fit...whether you call it a truck or a sport adventure vehicle, that interior is not intended to get dirty. at. all.

The Maverick's interior is exactly what it should be. Sure the Lariat colors didn't hit the mark for some (turned me off enough and I really wanted the additional safety in the lariat lux package), but it was designed with forethought as to who is buying and what they will use the vehicle for.

The reason they aren't doing full "to spec" builds is because that's not what hyundai or many other makers do. They just offer trim levels that have everything bundled, like it or not, and you take it or leave it. Makes for more efficient manufacturing, generally better quality control, but less personalisation.

I will consider a low trim SC if my Insight dies before taking delivery of my hybrid lariat.
23 mpg though, oof! That's what kills it for me on the SE and SEL trims of the SC.

Its only 190hp and yet only 1mpg better than the 280hp turbo version of itself. In fact, if you get the FWD SE or SEL, its actually 1mpg worse on the highway than the AWD SEL Premium or Limited.

Only way I could really justify a Santa Cruz SE or SEL trim is if you know you're going to be driving pretty chill anyway and need AWD. Bumping to AWD on the Maverick increases the fuel consumption and price quite a bit, especially if you pick a trim and options that are similar to the rather long list of standard features on the SE and SEL. I don't really need AWD though.

How do you figure? Ecoboost AWD should get the same or maybe a tick worse fuel economy than the Bronco Sport, which is the same weight, frontal profile, glass angle, mirrors, powertrain, etc. just because a crossover shape usually helps aerodynamics a bit over the bed of a pickup (same reason the Tucson gets a bit better mileage than the Santa Cruz with the same engine):

The Maverick is worth the wait! Looking at the SC would be a waste of time and a purchase would break the bank, because of the cost difference. Besides, the Maverick is a Way Better looking and cool vehicle.

The dealer demo ones? Of course, if you reset the MPG reader and record pure highway 60mph cruising for miles and miles, you can get crazy good fuel economy with a little turbo engine, but that doesn't represent what most will get in typical mixed driving. Here's the Bronco Sport from fuelly, spot on for its advertised mixed fuel economy:

Bronco sport has full 4x4, I'd expect it to be higher than the Bronco Sport Badlands but less than the Escape 2.0 AWD

Nope, no difference economy wise with the way the transmission works.

The BS can in Badlands trim has extra gear to act as a rear locker, but when cruising as it would for the EPA cycle its just driving the front wheels, same as in the Escape and Maverick. All trims would send 0% of power to the rear, keeping it disconnected for economy when cruising just like an Escape or Maverick does.

The BS is not full-time AWD like a Subaru if that's what you were thinking.

I like the SC and I know Hyundai makes long lasting vehicles with great warranties, and the SC kinda reminds me of the Halo Warthog. But the price and mpg isn't as good and the videos I've seen make it look like it's much less spacious than the mav.

Don’t know if this is still the case but a few years ago a friend who sold Hyundais told me that they build in huge single color lots; so one month everything that came in of a particular model were all silver, the next month everything was black. If they still do that, you could wait a long time for the color you want.
