I finally got around on installing the S&B air intake and I must say, wozzers. What a difference. Money well spent.

I have one on my 23 Lariat. Combined with a flowmaster FX exhaust which is not loud gives me the ability to get over 45mpg on a ecoboost truck. On a couple of trips on I35 this is what the mpg monitor showed. Trio is 42 miles each way. One was going the other returning.

Loving the S/B intake as well- Wakes up the motor, hits a little harder and has a nice rumble felt thru the gas pedal. Interested to see how the added oomph helps pulling our camp trailer. Cheers -

I'm always dubious of any added power or benefits claim to an aftermarket intake on a small turbo motor. I'm curious how they can claim to increase flow by 40%? Is that just a more freely flowing filter? Bigger piping? Does it matter? Doesn't the ECU just compensate for the increased air? I would think the main performance barrier in these motors is the intercooler being tiny and quickly heat soaked, not air intake.

Turbo noises are fun though, I guess.

That's awesome. I did have increased mpg 30 too 34 mpg. I'm now ready for the Cobb turner now. But yes the intake did wake up the turbo noises.

the intercooler is not actually that inefficient, plus heat soak happens when you're sitting still, not moving. on a highway an aftermarket intercooler won't help an otherwise stock maverick at all.

the performance barrier is the fact that it's factory tuned to be able to survive on 87 octane. if you use a reflash device with a tune optimized for 93 (which then couldn't use 87, of course) you'll gain at least 40 horsepower over stock.

Ford wanted to sell a truck that works on 87. but the factory intake and intercooler are hardly limiting.

Usually they temper it with the words "up to".
It has to be based on the filter alone and some ridiculous calculation of the increased size of the air box, or something? I recall back in my Volvo tuning days the stock air box (true cold air intake) could support up to 400 HP. I'm not sure what the benefit of an oiled filter with bigger holes, but people seem to love it. I'll stick with stock paper filters by a reputable manufacturer.

2025 motor intake is different. Do they have one for 2025 Ecoboost?

Unfortunately, that screen doesn't show us the last time you hit the reset button, so we can't tell if it's over a 1-mile downhill stretch or 500 miles. Let's see Trip 1 or 2 with at least a couple of hundred miles to get a better average.

I don’t buy it, unless you’re doing a down hill run. I can show 99 mpg on my Ecoboost in a down hill run.
Sorry, not believable.
my best ever mixed driving road trip was 31 mpg. And I worked it for that number.
