Just got my wheels delivered today from Canada via UPS. Even though the boxes were a little torn up, they ship them with decent protective covering. Now I just have to decide what tires to go with them. I'm looking at Cooper Endeavor Plus, and for about $20 more per tire I can get Pirelli Scorpion AS+3. Anybody have any experience with either one? My main wants out of the tires are smooth, quiet ride, and no big hits to the MPGs. The Cooper tires are closer to OEM weight (25 lbs) but the Pirellis are supposedly 31 lbs. I just really don't like the ride and the noise on the stock Continentals, even with knocking the tire pressure down to 33, so am hoping to find something a little smoother and quieter. If I had all the money to spend, I'd probably get Michelin Defender2s, but they're $50 to $60 more per tire. According to my searches on the MTC, the stock steelies and tires weigh about 51-52 lbs total. The RTX wheels with the Cooper tires would be about 53 lbs, and the wheels with Pirellis would be about 58 lbs. Trying to settle on a tire and get them mounted the first of next week. Will post photos as soon as they're on the truck.

Can I ask you to try and get an accurate measurement of the diameter of the hole that the stud goes thru? I'm curious if these are actually sized for 14mm studs, or the more common 12mm.

FWIW, the OEM BAP wheels I measured on my prior Mav had .68" diameter holes.

I've never had a bad experience with Michelins on those criteria.

My experience with cheap vs good tires is that over their lifespan, the noise / poor grip / rough ride of a bad tire will bug me a lot more than the extra cost of great tires

I don't remember EVER thinking "oh I wish I'd gotten cheaper tires"

I'm running Mich X-ICE in the winter, so I like the idea of having the Cooper Endeavor Plus when the stock tires go out. Since you're in CO, have a looked at the Continental CrossContact ATR instead of the Pirelli? Same weight as the CEP tire.

That's true if you're running 1 set year round. Since I'm running Michelin snows 4 months, I don't want Defenders for summer. I'd rather have a cheaper tire that will wear out a little quicker and be more efficient.

I haven't really been looking at AT tires because I thought they'd be noisier/wear quicker than an all-season/touring. I don't have to do really any mountain driving, and the roads are kept in good shape through the winter near my house. I do see that Discount Tire has the Continentals for about the same price as what I can get the Pirellis (with a price match), and the reviews say they're quiet. It seems like the more I try to narrow it down, the harder it gets!

My mistake, I thought those Pirellis were AT on-road but they're touring. I did some research recently and came up with these. They're all within a pound or two of the OEM tire, so easy on the suspension. The last one is the LX, not the LX 25.

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to measure the stud holes - I dropped the wheels off at Discount Tire right after I got them, and they just put the tires on today. If you contact RTX directly ([email protected]) they will answer any questions you have. I contacted them to make sure that OEM lugs would fit (they do) but I bought a set of black one-piece lugs on Amazon that matched the factory sizing (Dynofit 14mm x 1.5) and they fit exactly.

You just need to understand how tire warranties work and have a shop that works for you. They like selling you a new set of tires. Warranty credits sure do help.
