On my last trip up North apparently a rodent got inside of the garage. The rodent decided to knock a couple of thing over in the garage and munch on some of the electrical wires in my Maverick. The next morning when I started up my Maverick the engine light came on. I wasn't sure if it was the rodent or a real engine issue. At the time I noticed it knocked out my rear camera and the dash outside temperature read out. Also, on the first day of the heat wave here in MI I noticed my AC wasn't working as well.

I setup a service appointment with my dealership and brought it in yesterday. I was actually hoping it would be a truck issue but it turned out to be a rodent problem that chewed up my wiring harness. My insurance company will cover the damage and they classified it as vandalism. I asked them if this was a common thing and they said it wasn't unusual.

I have heard that wire insulation has a flavor that rodents like. It might be a salty flavor. I once had a full box of electrical tw wire in the garage, and when I went to use it a lot of it was bare wire...

I heard it was wire insulation made from (tasty?) soy bean oil.

Hope you get the rodent population under control. I personally wouldn't want it to be a regular occurrence. Actually doubt the insurance company would either.

All types of what I would call snake oil. Best is to make sure the garage is closed and no small holes they can get in
Then put some snap traps around. I have had moth balls? Irish spring not sure if they work. I have a mr2 I kept in one of those portable garages. They did a number on it. Also check the air filter they tend to get into the airbox.

That happened to our Blazer a few months ago, chewed off at the headlight. Over $700 for the dealer to replace the wire harness.

I had mouse in my old Chevy Cruze, it made a nest on the cabin air filter. Luckily no wires chewed (as far as I know).
be careful of rabbits though, they like to chew wires. I am going through my travel trailer, getting her road worthy after a long time in storage and have some chewed wires from som rabbits there. They may look cute, but Elmer Fudd was right when he called them “waskals.”

This☝

I put stinky Irish Spring soap bars in the trunk of a VW Golf one time. The mice chewed on them.

When I lived in the country had a large garage and a modest collection of vehicles, equipment and arc. Cats. Had a total of 4all fixed. Lived in garage with a cat door, heat lamp and bed. Had to put up with cat tracks on trucks, but rodents didn’t live in the garage or other outbuildings. Trapped the coons and possums. Also took care of snakes.
