Returning my Maverick tomorrow

I don't know if its a troll post, but I will say my experiencing driving my 2023 Hybrid Lariat and prior to that 2022 Hybrid Lariat do not match even remotely with anything he is saying. From my perspective of driving these Mavs for the last 2 year I got to call BS.
I agree!

This is a weird thread. But it's OK if others don't love the things I love. I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would just bail on a new vehicle without trying to see what is wrong with it.

Overall I think it's best for the OP to move on. Otherwise we just end up with a bunch of complaint threads every time a coin is rattling in the console.

Move on OP, you're doing the right thing. Let someone else take your truck.

The truck wanders around. The wandering got more noticeable above 60 mph. No darting, but it would slowly drift either right or left depending on where I was in my lane. The steering feels heavy, like the power steering isn't working as it should. Since everyone else seems to have no issues like I'm experiencing, it sounds like mine has some problems from the factory either in the build or with components. If the truck already has issues with 70 miles on it, I don't want to find out what other problems may come.
I had mine drifting to the left severely at 75 mph when I was in a 35+ mph cross wind! Also when was on road that was used by semi's with my tires following grooves a little wider than those on my maverick. Fortunately the state resurfaced that road!
Oh! The semi's were also leaning in the cross wind. A pickup pulling a camper trailer on the access road at a much lower speed was leaning and fishtailing! Weather app reported wind gust up to 70 mph. Traffic was at 75-76 close enough that lane changing was not possible and most of exit ramps were in accessible due to high speed. Temp was 108°F on truck screen. Mpg that day was down to 30.4 on dash, AC was set at 73 working great. Several hundred wind turbines near Sweetwater Texas were feathered in wind to prevent them from spinning to death!

Do they also have variable assist? My Honda had electric power steering that was a fixed ratio but changed the assist amount depending on vehicle speed. Going slow in a parking lot, I could steer it with one finger. Going down the Interstate, the steering firmed up noticeably and I'm sure that made it less squirrely at speed.

I found that system easier to use than the hydraulic, fixed-ratio, fixed-assist power steering on my Nissan Frontier. The steering assist on that truck is a compromise in comparison. Heavy in parking lots and squirrely on the Interstate, but good between maybe 30-50mph.
Yes! It works great. The eCVT in the hybrid is also butter smooth at every power range/demand.

It was tiring to drive. The steering is heavy. It feels like there was no power steering and/or it's severely out of alignment. A lot of reviews say it drives more like a car than a truck. Not this one. My expectations weren't high going in knowing that it is an inexpensive vehicle.
Very odd. I have the hybrid and have not experienced anything close to what you're describing, in fact, just the opposite.

To each their own I suppose. I used to prefer lighter steering, until I had the misfortune of driving a rental Chrysler town and country. The steering on that was so light, and vague, combine that with the floaty suspension and body roll, it was the kind of van where you constantly had to make corrections on the steering wheel, and each time you did, it felt like the van was gonna flip over.

Ever since that experience, I prefer heavier steering. It might be too much for some people, especially as they start to get up there in age. But I like knowing where the wheels are, and what they're doing at all times. The heavier steering makes the maverick seem tighter, and more planted to me. It has none of the vague BS steering and handling we used to see with those older vans, SUVs, and trucks.

I meant he would have been better off in terms of power because he felt his old Ford pickup performed better.
Which is quite telling by itself. He prefers the feeling of an old Ford truck, and is, to an extent, expressing his frustrations that this maverick doesn't handle like that. It handles much better imo.

Based off what he's said, it sounds like he wants steering that's very light, and vague like those older trucks. Rather than the heavier, more responsive steering on things like the maverick. The wobbly steering and jello suspension is one of many things I personally hate about classic cars. But our differences in perspective just shows everyone has their preferences, there's nothing wrong with that I suppose.

There's a dealership here in Evansville that promotes a (presumably) no questions asked return policy - maybe 300 miles and / or 5 days similar to what the OP mentioned.

The OP complains about how the Maverick drives. My EB drives just a like a car, very smooth. I’ve never driven a hybrid so I can’t directly comment on the OP’s experience.
The hybrid drives like a car. I've never driven the sporty focus or fiesta models, but some have likened the handling of both the hybrid and Ecoboost to those models. I can see why, the steering is very responsive. It's a touch heavier than our explorer, but it's really not that noticable. I've driven cars with no power steering, you can barely turn the wheel at lower speeds. So I'm not quite sure what the OP is on about with the power steering comments.

Why does everyone take this as a personal assault?

OP could have gotten a lemon, those happen too. It's valid for OP to complain about it here just as we all do our wait times. Also, of there is such a return window at OPs dealer then I'd be happy to hear about a consumer avoiding a lemon by such policies.

There are some people here that we're soured by the wait alone and we don't, as a whole, call them fake. How many of us have bailed on a date within 72 hours of our first ride? They can't all be keepers 😁.

He created an account just to post that he was returning his Maverick within 24 hours. Then gave several lame reasons that no one else has experienced. When asked several questions he's refused to provide additional information. Nothing on these forums impacts any of us personally, but some of us that have been around long enough to smell a rat or in this case a troll.

With all my years of driving all kinds of vehicles I thought what that individual said was off base. That's why I thought power was the reason for for that persons disappointment with the Hybrid Maverick. I have owed a F 150 and many other vehicles. In that vehicles era where soft suspensions were the norm and vehicles ran on bias ply tires it would be insane to say that his fathers F 150 handled better on the highway then the Maverick or any of today's vehicles.

It would be insane, yet that's exactly what he's claiming. The maverick has heavier steering than our 2017 explorer, but that's not really a turn off. I wouldn't call the steering overly laborious. Most trucks from my understanding have heavier steering because if you're running close to max payload in the bed, or towing something, the steering gets a little light.

So if the default steering on the maverick was light, and ponderous while empty, and then someone hauled 1,500 lbs with it, it would be a problem. I generally view complaints like this as being extremely trivial.
