Replaced my original OEM battery with an Everstart AGM H4 battery today. Thanks to "Dad" for the instructions. I didn't have to remove any of the plastic around the battery. I was able to maneuver the battery hold-down piece back into place with a paint stirring stick and a telescoping magnetic pick-up thing. Once the hold-down piece was in place, I used the magnetic tool to get the bolt started, then finished with a ratchet. Took less than an hour to get things done.

Used my new NOCO battery charge to charge the battery up to about 12.8V. It was at about 12.6 when I brought it home from the store.

Accomplished the BMS reset procedure as described in the manual and the Mav is doing it's eight hour sit as required with the doors locked and vehicle off.

Is it necessary to fully charge the battery before installing? Or is that more of an optional step? Thanks in advance.

The reset and relearn will be teaching the BMS system that what it sees is about what the battery can do.
If not charged to full - you just limited the system.

It really is, if you want the most life out of that battery. The truck will never make it any higher than it is by itself. The battery life is short enough IMO.

Technically yes, but you should be using the jump points under the hood.

Sure - normal advice - positive clamp to positive, neg to body.
It barely takes any juice.

I just replaced the original 12v battery in my 2023 hybrid. The tips on this original post were super helpful. Overall, installation was easy and so far all is good. I wanted to share some notes on my experience in case helpful for others:

I ended up going with this EverStart AGM battery from Walmart ($190).

Based on other Reddit advice, I used a NOCO Genius 5 to fully charge the new battery before installation.

The only tools I needed were the socket wrench, 10mm socket, a 10" socket extender, and an extendable magnetic pickup tool to retrieve and replace the hold-down plate and bolt.

On my first attempt re-attaching the hold-down plate, I attached a strong magnet to the socket head to keep the bolt from falling out. I would NOT do this, because if the magnet is knocked off it will fall down and stick to something metal at the bottom. This happened to me and I had to remove the battery again just to fish out the magnet. Instead, I just lined the inside of the socket with some tape so the bolt would stay put.

After reinstalling the new battery, don't forget to reset the battery monitor (see manual for instructions).

Good luck!

Glad to hear all went well. You made my day!

2022 Hybrid, 46,000 miles been having the sleep mode issue for a couple years mainly in winter...Had 3 software recalls done last week and 2 days later12v battery was at 7v....

Called out AAA to jump and they did a battery test and it showed battery wouldn't hold a charge which isn't unexpected...

Had AAA replace with their AGM, $268 a bit more then if I ordered on line but I was stuck with no car and they could fix it right then and there so that was worth the $60-$75 for me.

Hoping this battery last another 4 years but these software updates have me worried I now have a parasitic drain I didn't have before.

Sleep mode for a couple years.
Just got done with another winter.

Coincidence.

Doubtful the upgrades introduced a problem you must not have had before since it made it so long.
Wondering if they put battery on maintainer or charger during the software upgrades.
Pretty bad if neither - that would have caused a big drain you'd likely not recover from with short daily drives.

Your battery was shot already.

Have you read this page of posts yours is on at least?
You'll see the advice from the manual you need to do with new battery.

Sometimes conditions call for spending the extra dough, so you made the right call on having to pay more. I would put aside your worries. I've had the AGM replacement battery going on a year and a half with absolutely no problems or issues on my hybrid. From all evidence, it looks like the OEM battery was just junk to begin with. I'm sure Ford went with the cheapest option to keep costs down, but therein lies the lesson.
