I washed and waved my Maverick for the first time today. Looks ok, but I am wondering what product might be recommended. So many different types available at the nearby stores, and the internet recommendations seem to be a mixed bag. Also, do the UV-protective coatings for the trim really work or are they necessary?

I have been using Griots Garage products for a long time now. I like their products. My Mustang is 18 years old with 185000 miles. I haven't washed her with water in 15 years. I use spray on car wash and wipe down with premium microfibers. There are as many brands as there are opinions out there: I don't want to start a war just saying what works for me.

Whoa, that's amazing! Looks great. When I got this Maverick, I got rid of my 1998 F150, and I would only wash it about once a year. After 26 years the metallic paint still looked like new. It defies logic, but it sure seemed that a good healthy coat of dirt protected the paint over all those years.

Dont use wax. Ceramic coating of some sort is what to use. Some might still say wax but are really ceramic. Look at label.

Wax at best last 2 months tops if outside. Ceramic coating a good one last a year or more . Many to choose from. Youtube has many videos on tests of them. The best ones are pro installed and are much harder to do. Stay away from those. typically over a 100 dollars for the stuff.

I use Griots Garage CERAMIC 3-IN-1 WAX. Yes it has some wax but ceramic too. I have seen test on it lasting a year on test hood on youtube . I do mine twice a year. Once in May once October. Easy to put on. Yes there are better ones that last even longer BUT cost more and harder to install. I can find mine at local auto parts stores.

BUT many brands are just as good if not better . BUT some brands stink. Only last 1 month . Yes seen the youtube tests. One brand mentioned here often, NOT if this post so far. .

I've been using McGuiar's products for 29 years now, always had great results. They're hybrid ceramic wax is awesome. Used it on both vehicles in October and it has held up well here to the salt during winter, cleaned up nicely yesterday.

I used CeraKote for paint, when my truck was fairly new. Also applied CeraKote for plastic at the same time.

I re-applied both, slightly over a year later, although both were still beading water.

I love how the ceramic coatings help keep dirt from sticking to the truck. Usually, a manual spray car wash is all that's needed to remove dirt. I usually just do that and blow dry with a leaf blower, to get the water droplets off the truck.

As others said, there are a lot of paint coatings tests on youtube that compare how different brands perform.

I usually use the Megs Gold Class wax (my favorite is paste but JMO) 2x a year, then spray wax w/ Megs Syn Xpress Spray Wax once a month or so. Although pops almost exclusively spray waxed and used liquid once a year if that on my Explorer when he bought it new and it lived in the CA sun since then... so... perhaps spray and an occasional thicker coat is enough? Not sure.

I agree CeraKote works great, I gave it 3 coats over last summer and there still more in the bottle, nothing sticks to the truck and always looks clean. It only takes 20/30 min to do the whole truck and water just rolls off, I did the glass also and same thing. Had a friends dog jump on my door to greet me and his nails just slid off the door. My carb/grey truck always looks clean, people always comment you washed your truck again I say NOPE. My 22 FX4 is going to be 3 years old in few months and never touched the plastic trim still looks great. I doubt a paste wax could of done that, this is much easier to apply, with paste wax you have to be so careful not to touch the plastic trim it turns it white.

I use Turtle Wax Ice products, after washing with McGuier's Gold cvar wash with wax.
When it is dry use Ice spray Seal ansd Shine. The use Ice Spray wax for top coat.

This takes about 1 1/4 -1 1/2 hrs total. Lasts eight to ten weeks.

I agree. Although IIRC, I think CeraKote for painted surfaces also tells you to not get it on the plastic trim bits.
