Exactly, which is why I can't understand why anyone would position anything on, or in front of where the airbags could deploy. A phone mounted with a vent clip, a misplaced cable in front of an airbag, or any other object that could travel at 100mph, could do some serious damage.

Same here. I traded in my Cmax with 94k miles and had never replaced the brakes, and the same for my F150 with 130k miles. I think it has a lot to do with how hard people apply the brakes and the location of the vehicle (I'm in CA and don't have to worry about salt on the roads or extreme weather).
