Haven't had one but not surprised, there seems to be numerous post/threads in the past about egr issues in the past

“Engine Vibration” and “Loss of Motive Power” yikes 😳

No fix yet…maybe September 26

I asked GROK how a faulty EGR system can cause engine vibration and/or loss of motive power as explained in the recall:

Quote:
In March 2026, Ford issued a safety recall (NHTSA campaign 26V122, Ford recall 26S10) affecting certain **2025 Ford Maverick** models (among others like Ranger, Mustang, Explorer, Escape, Bronco, Bronco Sport, and some Lincoln variants). This recall targets potential failure in the **Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve**, specifically where the internal **poppet head** (a component that seals and controls gas flow) can detach due to inconsistent laser welding during manufacturing.

This defect allows **excessive exhaust gas** to recirculate into the intake manifold and combustion chamber uncontrollably.

### How This Causes Engine Vibration

- Normally, the EGR system meters a precise, small amount of inert exhaust gas (typically 5–20%) to dilute the air-fuel mixture and lower combustion temperatures for reduced NOx emissions.

- When the poppet detaches, the valve can stick open or allow unrestricted flow, flooding the engine with too much exhaust gas (far beyond normal levels).

- This creates an overly lean or imbalanced combustion process (excessive dilution with inert gases reduces oxygen availability and disrupts efficient burning).

- Result: **Misfires** or irregular combustion cycles occur, leading to rough running, shaking, or noticeable **engine vibration** (often described as shaking at idle or low speeds). Owners may feel this as an unsteady engine before full power loss sets in.

### How This Causes Loss of Motive Power

- Excessive EGR flow severely dilutes the combustible mixture, making it hard for the engine to produce adequate torque.

- The engine control module (ECM/PCM) detects issues via sensors (e.g., oxygen, MAP, knock, or EGR position/pressure feedback) and may enter a **limp mode** or protective strategy to prevent damage — reducing fuel delivery, retarding timing, or limiting throttle response.

- In severe cases, widespread misfires or inability to sustain combustion can cause **weak acceleration**, significant power reduction, or complete **loss of drive power** (especially at low speeds, e.g., below 15–20 mph or ~20–30 kph, where EGR demand is higher during light-load operation).

- The recall notes this can happen unexpectedly, increasing crash risk, though no crashes or injuries were reported at the time of the announcement.

- Other symptoms include a **check engine light** (likely codes like P0401, P0402 for flow issues, or misfire-related codes), **no-start condition** in extreme cases, or the need for a restart.

This issue primarily affects vehicles with certain 2.0L EcoBoost (gas) engines in the Maverick (and similar engines in other recalled models). The hybrid 2.5L variants are not mentioned in this specific EGR poppet recall.

Ford dealers will inspect and replace the EGR valve as the remedy (once parts are available; interim owner letters were planned for March 2026, with full fixes expected later in the year). If your Maverick is a 2025 model built in the affected date range (roughly late 2024 to mid-2025), check your VIN on Ford's recall site or NHTSA.gov for applicability. Contact Ford customer service (1-866-436-7332) or a dealer for confirmation and free repair scheduling.

So if I read the recall letter right, its just the 2025 model year for the Mavs, and just those 5,644 vehicles with the ecoboost engine. Not the hybrid.

I received the same one yesterday also. Really great! Our truck might fail but it will take SIX MONTHS for a software update! What kind of deal is that! I wonder how many of us will be stranded somewhere before this is fixed

I need to go check my mailbox:) My Lobo was built in that time frame…

Also, that time frame has a TSB for potential high pressure fuel pump leak. I smell gas in my oil & having an oil analysis done this week. May have to visit dealer based on results…

Oh yeah, my Lobo was built with the wrong radiator. Still need to bring it in for the “customer satisfaction” recall…

I purchased my first ever comprehensive extended warranty when I bought this “first year” model Maverick . I’m dumb but not stupid!

I got my notice today! I just loved the Sept fix date; I guess it take 6 months to update a program

hopefully they will knock it out pretty quick, but we're talking ford software engineers, it took years for them to finally sort out the battery & charging issue that really hit the hybrid folks hard and some ice folks too. 🤷‍♂️

If I read the details correctly - a weld may break in the EGR system causing it to jam open & flood the manifold with exhaust gas.

Engine vibration followed by instant limp mode or worse yet - loss of motive power.

Not sure faulty welds can be a software fix. I could be wrong of course. But if your Maverick is in that build range & your engine starts vibrating - quickly look for a safe spot to pull over!

Good point.

This update is probably to look for signs that it's about to happen - and then limp you home before it does.

All in an effort to not replace more hardware than required if you don't have the problem.

Why am I guessing there will be a time limit on it being replaced under this recall, but not being replaced because it's a wear item at some point.
