Rear View Camera cleaner

For the last month or so, I have been inundated with advertisement for these gadgets that clear off your rear view camera.

Anyway, I filled out their "when will you make one for my truck" form, and ...and lo and behold they do!

Not an endorsement, but pretty cool doohickey.

And yes, I've had to lick my thumb and clean mind off a lot over the last 3 months I've owned a Mav. It seems to attract grim like crazy.

$99 for a bit of tube, a tee, some zip ties and a small plastic part.
Yikes that's a hard pill to swallow!

But, like most things, I guess we are paying for the upfront R&D and the like. Those plastic doohickeys are $0.10 a piece out of an injection molder now, but the first one cost $thousands in setup.

regardless, like I said, not an endorsement, just wanted to pass it along for those interested.

Boo yah! Having spent 45+ years in the T&D/Injection Molding industry, people have no idea what that first part costs. That's why you see so many wanna-be inventors give up, when they are told the tooling cost to create their do-hicky.

I gave up quite often after getting the cost to get my do-hicky injected!

Cheapest option out there and readily available everywhere.

I've used this when I've gone snorkeling. I never thought about it for my backup camera. I use it now.
Literally dirt cheap.
Rub it on let it dry, then wipe the residual off.

But for all intents and purposes, windshield washer hose at retail is about $2.50 a foot. 25 feet would be $62.50. Check valve another $5 retail, shutoff valve another $5 brings us to $72.50.

The actual spray nozzle is the hardest thing to find an off-the-shelf replacement for since it's a plastic fitting that is threaded on one end and has an integrated 90-degree output on the other end.

To have something that functions and looks OEM-like might be well worth the $27.49 to some folks so it doesn't look like you raided the drip irrigation section of Home Depot to cobble something together, along with having everything arrive in one box.

I am sure they probably 3D printed several prototypes but maybe realized that getting something injection-molded was gonna result in higher customer satisfaction and fewer returns or warranty replacements.

Maybe mounting a self-contained tank & pump in one of the bed cubbies, and running a pair of wires to a dash switch, is a better approach?
