I posted the results of the PTU oil change last week so I figured I post the RDU oil change. Pretty much the same results: It was properly filled at the factory (About half a quart and and half out), old fluid was cloudy, and there was sludge on the magnet. The RDU is slightly easier since there is no cover to remove and the fill plug is easier to get to.

I watched a YouTube video from a gentleman who did his own RDU fluid changed - and he noted the fill & drain plugs were very easy to loosen. Did you find that when doing yours?

The specs were 30 ft lbs for the drain plug and 21 for the fill plug. I tightened them to that when I reinstalled the plugs. They were definitely loser then that from the factory.

I've heard of Engrish but here it's the French translation of that oil name that is total nonsense 😄
It says "disconnect the rear bridge liquid"

Aren’t you worried about damaging it by waiting so long to change the oil? I read on the internet, that you’re supposed to change it with every gas fill up.

nah, that's the blinker fluid. The fill cap is right behind the Bricking Control Unit.

😜

Every gas fill up is too often I think. I’m going to do mine every year. 6 months for the first change though.

This is the first time in my life that I allowed the internet to convince me to do the “break in” fluid changes. My other car is an Audi and it got its first oil change at 10k. I think it’s because I had so many problems with my last Ford (20 years ago) that I am taking every precaution.

Ford recommends this be done at 60,000 miles if not regularly towing, which i will be doing. 40,000 miles on our 23 mav so far.

Actually the manual says you do not have to change it under normal conditions.

So the person putting on the oil filters is NOT doing those plugs!

I have my PTU scheduled for fluid change next week at 7K and it will be the one and only time it is changed. The RDU will be done at next oil change at 8.5K and that will be the one and only change on that too.

Suffice to say miles driven per year versus the years I have left on this planet will not warrant any further servicing.

Ok now I'm worried...

I did both PTU/ RDU a few weeks ago...

But the dealer gave me the same stuff for both. Doesn't match the RDU bottle in your post.

Opinions or explanations anyone?
I'm in Canada if that matters.

75w is the one specified for the RDU. I don’t know how much different the two actually are. It probably won’t make a difference.
