Just turned 12K...2023 4K Model .. Had ordered tranny, PTU and RDU from RockAuto a while ago and decided to change the fluids - mainly bored and I wouldn't get to it for months if I didn't do it now.

RDU - filler and drain both removed with 3/8 drive. They are identical plugs however Ford only put a magnet insert into the bottom one...el cheapo Ford! Wouldn't
have hurt to make them both magnetic! Magnet had a lot of material on it..about 1/4" high of magnetic metal filings. Oil color pretty good although there was small particles suspended in the fluid. Used the Ford 75W hypoid syn this time but I doubt I will use it again. I don't think it is anything special compared to other brands. Now I was only able to get about 13-14 ounces out of the unit. I refilled and it was under a pint...my backend was up a little high so as I lowered it some of the new fluid started dripping out so I knew I could not add any more. There is no way this unit holds 1.6 pints unless there is some special procedure I don't know about. I applied tru-blu sealant dope on the threads. I torqued both to about 25 ft lbs even though input is supposed to be less. 30 for bottom is too tight in my opinion and I don't want a cracked rearend or stripped threads.

PTU - removed about 12 ounces and it took the same amount. Grease was completely black and metal shavings on magnetic pickup too but not as bad as the RDU plug. Drain was 3/8 and filler plug was 8mm. Tightened both snug maybe 20 ft lbs. Drain plug was probably like 10 max when I removed it. Used the Ford 75W85.

If you bought a quart of each you will really have enough for 2 changes unless you spill some like I did! I won't be buying the Ford 75W85 once it is used up. Way overpriced.

tranny - too early to change based on my experience with the Escapes 2.0L engines. I will wait until 25 at least.

PTU/RDU - probably could have waited a little longer but I want this truck to last 10+ years without a PTU or RDU failure. I don't trust these units based on the Escape issues even though they supposedly fixed the heat issues for the PTU. So far no rearend whine at 40-50mph in the RDU which was a common issue on many of the Escapes once they hit 30-40K...... with no real fix and a bogus TSB that did nothing.
