There is a huge percentage of people in this country that I will never, ever understand. You kids would have loved the JC Whitney catalog.

I had completely forgotten about JC Whitney until I read your post! Yes, that was the accessories bible in my day.

What’s the point of replacing it? It’s not that long to begin with.
I thought the same until I realized I wanted to have the truck washed in one of those automatic washes and I tried bending it as might one of those washing rollers. It didn't look like it might survive, so I swapped it out with the stubby. No reception issues and I feel better about running it through the car wash.

I thought about keeping the longer antenna and dragging out a dummy RC box the next time someone asks me about the truck. The look on their faces would be priceless.

The AM band in the United States covers frequencies from 540 kHz up to 1700 kHz, in 10 kHz steps (540, 550, 560 ... 1680, 1690, 1700). 530 kHz in the United States is not available for broadcast use, but is reserved for the use of very low powered Travelers' Information Stations.

The FM broadcast in the United States starts at 88.0 MHz and ends at 108.0 MHz. The band is divided into 100 channels, each 200 kHz (0.2 MHz) wide. The center frequency is located at 1/2 the bandwidth of the FM Channel, or 100 kHz (0.1 MHz) up from the lower end of the channel

I'm in the camp that it looks more attractive.

Other than radio antenna function, what other components are under that shark-fin puck?

Maverick shares some of the same parts as its big brothers, like, F-150 third brake light, etc. I figured the antenna was also shared. The aluminum stubby antenna I ordered was for a 2019-2022 Ranger. It came with a M6x1.00 threaded adapter. It also came with a smaller M5x0.80 threaded stud adapter, which is what threads into the Maverick. Both antennas had the same concave shape on the bottom mating surface.

Great! There are more criminal owners of compatible vehicles that can twist off my stubby antenna. NO TOOL NEEDED.
