Radio antenna replacement?

Has anybody removed their antenna and just used a bolt or shaped a bolt and used it ? Did it work OK ?

I’m assuming your goal is you want a shorter one? Amazon has shorter ones for the Maverick for around $12-$15.

I removed the original and replaced it with a stubby(bullet shaped),and it has worked great!

I figured I would take the antenna to home depot and get a stainless bolt about 3" long and remove the hex head and shape it. Just have to figure the thread size

Are you sure the mast just is not screwed into it? Without the mast, it appears just like a simple fin.

Hell, you're right. There was no antenna on there when I went to pick it up on Sunday and I just thought it was a shark fin style.

Look in your glove box. They tend to stash them there at the factory.

I was concerned about how stiff the original antenna was, but didn't want to go the stubby route, so ordered one the same length as the original but made out of soft flexible rubber.

I was afraid the car washes drop down air dryer may break the original antenna or the fin it mounts too, but wanted to maintain the best signal possible.

We'll see?

The FM radio reception is garbage anyway, unless you live in a city. Out here in the sticks, I can't pick up doodly squat. I want want one of those huge whip antennas I can tie it to the trailer hitch.

Just checked and nada. I have a fuel funnel and that flex bed pigtail, but nothing else.
I was planning on getting the stubby anyways so I guess it's not a big deal.

Interesting to note the Maverick wiring diagrams show a second diversity FM antenna input, with an “if equipped” dotted line box.

*** Correction: FM2 is the antenna input for DAB in European C2 platform vehicles… perhaps a future European Maverick.
