Hey guys/gals, big fan of the site but first time post. I am sure someplace in this forum this question has been answered so I apologize. I currently have an eco boost, awd xlt, with xlt lux and fx4 package on order from 11/15 (I actually had a dream I got it last night 😂)The longer Ford makes me wait, the more I want to add onto my order! I have now been mulling over adding the 4K towing package.
Finally to my question,
the hybrid is said to tow 2 k
The eco boost without the 4K package is listed to tow 2k as well. Can anyone fill me in on why that is the same as the hybrid? I know the 4K has upgraded radiator and cooling fan etc. but that doesn’t make the eco boost and hybrid equal. Any insight is appreciated!

Thank you!

Things an EB 4K has that an EB FX4 doesn't:

*Transmission fluid cooler
*7-pin connector w/trailer brake controller
*Different final gear ratio

Things the EB 4K and EB FX4 have in common:

*Same hitch receiver
*AWD
*Same upgraded radiator and cooling fan (Ford uses slightly different wording in both package descriptions but I'm betting parts are identical)
*Same engine, brake system, etc.

Real question is why no middle ground for FX4 package between 2,000-pound capacity base and 4,000-pound capacity w/4K package? I'll let everyone draw their own conclusions.

I’m sure the EB Fx4 without the 4K trailer pack could easily handle a middle ground sized 2500-3000 lb trailer. All trailers over 3000 lbs in my area need separate trailer brakes, which requires a 7 pin harness to utilize, which only comes with the 4K package. So my thought is, Ford chose to make things less complicated for themselves and their customers by offering the 2 trailer towing choices, 1 @ 2000 lbs and the other @ 4000 lb.

Your logic seems sound. And I believe the regs in my state are the same -- trailer brakes required over 3,000 pounds.

Given that, still not sure why there is no other towing tier between 2,000 and 4,000...

Final drive ratios 1) standard 2.91 hybrid
2) fx4 awd & fwd - 3.63 turbo
3) 4k. - 3.81 turbo
Fx4 -better rear suspension besides the differences already noted.

Again, your logic seems sound to me. Hard to believe an EB AWD FX4 is not more tow capable than a FWD Hybrid...

just add the 7 pin harness and brake controller and its basically equal to the eco AWD no 4k if you're not long hauling

Actually the biggest thing is the GCWR on the door sticker is higher to be legal, goes from 6145 to 8145. Tow package is pretty cheap for what you get, kind of a no brainer if you are ever going to tow anything...the bigger radiator and trans cooler will help engine/trans last longer even if you dont tow.

bigger radiator and trans cooler will not help the engine last longer unless you're continually pushing the limits.

If you're mostly pulling a trailer with electric brakes or near 3-4k then chances are you need the tow package otherwise it's not necessary.

The FX4 package also includes the bigger radiator and cooling fan. Just not the tranny cooler.

if you got to have a hybrid forget towing anything except a small teardrop trailer up to about 1500 - 1800 lbs. You never want to max out the weight and leave a little extra for the tongue weight.

If you need to tow then the 4k tow package is the way to go. That will cover your towing needs for most everything except for 5th wheel trailers, large boats, heavy equipment, etc. If you need to move stuff like that then you are looking at the wrong truck for those applications.

If you use a utility trailer for example unless you have a dual axle trailer you'll never come anywhere near that 4k figure since the axle load is a max of 3500 lbs and GVWR on the bigger trailers like a 6 x 14 is around 2980 lbs GVWR.
