Prospective Buyer - Questions on Trims?

So i have been out of the new car game awhile but its time to replace the 2014 F150 as repairs are mounting... and am shocked at prices now. Inflation sucks.

Ive shortlisted the Maverick as an option, looking at an AWD Hybrid XL or XLT with 4K tow.

i have a small popup currently that i tow a few weekends in the summer, maybe some lumber in the bed or a utility trailer with mulch or stuff like that. Otherwise use the truck mostly as a commuter so why pay almost double (in Cdn $) the price for a new F150 i dont use, to get worse gas mileage.

Ive searched but whats the difference between the XL and XLT trims (for 2026)? Is it just the seat colour or are the seats themselves better, rims, keyless entry/push start and backseat cupholder and hitch (which is irrelevant as i plan the 4k tow kit anyway)? The XLT has more addable options (XLT lux package)... Heated seats might be nice but not sure if it woth the XLT+Lux package upgrade cost. Does the XL support remote start at all? i assume via the app?

Otherwise how is the factory bed spray liner vs linex? And the factory tonneaus(trifold or hard rollup). i think i saw they are Bak equivalents just with ford branding. any issues with them?

Any other tips and tricks to look for with the Mav...

get the XLT if you want cruise control and possibly the Blindspot mirror.

I got the XL Hybrid AWD with 4K tow.
I like the seat material better than the XLT (I test drove both).
If you go onto the Ford site, build your own truck there and it will give you every available option.

Myself, I prefer the keyed ignition as it's much more secure, and yes, via the Ford app, you can still remote start it. That's only available on the XL as all other trims are push button.

The XLT didn't provide much additional value for the cost IMHO, as the only real advantage is the ability to add the luxury package. You get most of the same features by adding the AWD and 4k, as that also gives you power mirrors and Copilot features.

I'd suggest you do the builds on the Ford site as noted and compare features and costs.
You can save the printouts for reference and use that at a dealership (or not).

As was noted, if you want/need heated seats (an easy add on) and heated steering (I didn't but you might) the XLT trim and the more expensive trim levels are required.

Looks decent if you don't mind removing it to get full bed access, especially on a smaller bed, just something to consider.

Go for the Lariat. That way you get ALL the toyz.

I agree w/ this. The extra sound deadening, adaptive cruise, and other goodies are all good stuff. Find a Lariat and don't look back. By the time you properly accessorize the XLT there may not be all that much difference anyway. I remember one new vehicle I bought was a '97 S-10 that I equipped exactly as I wanted; extended cab, step side bed, ZQ8 suspension, 5-speed manual, etc. The one thing I cheaped out on was the power windows, locks, and mirrors package. It would have added less than $500 to the final cost. "Nah, I don't need that..." I put 156k miles on the thing and regretted that decision for 155,999 miles! Spend a little bit more now and be happier for as long as you own it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and forget about the "tailgate lock" accessory that Ford offers. It's a silly ring w/ a one-off key that goes around the hinge pivot at the bottom of the tailgate so it can't be stolen. (Good salesman! The tailgate locks w/ the remote on the Lariat anyway, can't steal the tailgate if you lock your doors.) Problem is that mine has that and (I'm the second owner) and I never got the key! Hope I never have to take the thing off!

Much more expensive than that you get into Ranger territory... which i will give a look at to see if it is worth a small splurge... but first thing is to test drive...

Seats aside is the dash colour really a blueish vinyl... not sure thats a plus but i do have to see it in person.

To be fair, add the cost to purchase new aluminum wheels or equivalent to replace those ugly steelies and labor to swap the tires and tmps over and your probably not too far apart

Totally agree. The added safety features alone are well worth the extra $$$. Once you have some of them, you'll never look back!

Only plus on the XLT would be the heated seats/mirrors. Your profile says you're up in Canada, are those things you could go without? But I agree with @OleFordGuy, see what the price is for new wheels for the XL. IMO it seems like a better deal than the XLT if you're not counting the heated stuff.

Other plus on the XLT is this mid level trim package is the best deal. That trims spec’s often cover most everything you’d really need or want.
You can build a lot of value into that package and save a couple of grand if the Lariat is a bit of a budget stretch.

Absolutely.... tradeoffs... just moving up to the XLT but no Lux package and its only a 2K difference. Aftermarket spray-in liner and aftermarket tonneau are roughly half the price of the factory options. The Ford tonneau is a rebranded Bak, and a dozen others are also good. I have a fantastic Bison tonneau, but it is only available in Canada. I also have a Line-x spray-in liner that I like.

I think the heated steering wheel is one of the best features for winter driving.

Welp. Im a member of the club now or will be soon. Ive put a deposit down on a 26 Hybrid XLT AWD with 4k tow, and xlt lux package... in velocity blue. its on its way, just have to wait for delivery i like the red colour but its horrible with the blue accents in the interior on the xlt.

My wife really liked basically the same xlt but also with blackout package on the powder blue colour that they had on lot (with a couple other addons that did nothing for me but inflate the price)... i liked the color but wasnt sure if i would like the color 5 years from now... so we passed on it. Got dealer to throw-in linex and trifold tonneau as well so it ticks all my boxes for what i need.

i was pleasantly surprised by how roomy it was, especially in compariszon to the Ranger which i was cross shopping. i felt the mav had just about the same leg room despite being smaller because the less bulky dash and was more spacious up front side to side because of smaller centre console compared to ranger though the ranger definitely had bigger back seats. mav was also easier to get in and out of as well. Using the running board on ranger ironically put me too high so i kinda had to duck in... and that made it feel cramped. ranger also had less range on the steering wheel moving up or less ability to put seat down didnt help eitheri am.. im 6'2" and 270, wife is 5'3 and 120 and we both felt comfortable driving, where she didnt like driving my f150 or the ranger...

The hybrid had plenty of pep. no complaints. looking forward to picking it up but i will also miss the f150...

if i had one complaint is the kinda hodge podge of physical controls on it... not all hvac funtions or all audio funtion but a few buttons for both... would have preferred full physical hvac controls but i can live with the screeni for them if i must.

Congratulations!!!! I think you and the wife made the right decision with the XLT w/Lux over the XL in the long run.

Blue is my favorite color!

I also put a deposit down on my Maverick while it was on the way to the dealer. Lariat was more than I wanted at the time but it was a Velocity Blue Hybrid. Now I am glad it is a Lariat w/Black Appearance Package & 4K Tow.

I started looking at the XLT but none were blue & hybrid. I saw a red XLT under a street light & it looked like it was PINK.
