Poorly written Maverick Manual

Is it just me, or is this vehicle manual about the crappiest one Ford could have put together???
I recently bought a Maverick XLT AWD from my father and I'm going through the manual looking for all the features & controls to know what this truck is capable of; especially the proximity sensors and alerts. My dad's memory is failing and he doesn't remember what all his truck was equipped with.
This has got to be the WORST vehicle manual I have ever seen. The paper is so thin and the pictures are so dark, it's sometimes impossible to tell what they are trying to show me. I'm probably going to look for an aftermarket book to get a better feel for the truck. I believe I have the 4k towing towing package, but can't find any place in my vehicle or documentation to verify that. I welcome anyone's help with that.

Is this manual the crappiest? No idea. Ive never opened mine.

The tech is pretty basic and easy to learn on the fly.

Reading the manual would just burn a bunch of free time with no real benefit.

The reason there isn't a version customized to each trim level is very simple: cost

It looks like your PDF reader is showing only the hyperlinks instead of the lettered graphics that are supposed to be overlaid.

The way to properly handle a user manual (soft copy) is to write a base manual to cover all the features and functions found on all the models and trims. Then you write a set of instructions for each feature/function that is dependent upon model/trim/installed options. Then instead of a single document stored on a website, you have a print program that looks up the specifics for the user's vehicle by VIN. The base document plus the pertinent instructions gets printed to the PDF. The user then gets a manual that does not have the phrase "if installed". In the days of hard-copy manuals, cost could be a valid reason not to have a customized document. No longer valid with only soft-copy manuals.

Hello, Thank you for your comment @OleFordGuy. I actually have the same problem of how to do to corroborate if I have the 4K package equipped. I have the Maverick Lariat Hybrid 2025 and I have all the characteristics you describe. I would have liked to have been able to corroborate it with the VIN code on some Ford site.

That would be dumb.

Your tongue is much wider and thicker, and the cable will hold better!

Anyway, if you want bad manuals, try GM Factory Service Manuals from the 90s.

You get things like "8B-17c-14D"

but the way they sort varies between the first, second, and third group.

And they jump back and forth between the two printed manuals. As in, Sections 7, 8, and 10 might be in volume !, with 8B and 9 in volume 2.

Agreed about this manual. Dealer didn't spend enuff time orienting me to features. Phone is linked, but how do I get Google maps to display on the screen? Other ?? too. Thinking about buying a cheap Android tablet & downloading all 400+ pages, leaving in the truck for reference. Anybody know how large a file the tree killing manual is? Any other advice?

The 2023 PDF is about 62 MB; I would expect the 2025's to be at least somewhat close.

Dealer didn't spend enuff time orienting me to features.

It's Ford. Do they even do that? I couldn't wait to get the hell away from the dealer I bought from.

I have a '24 XLT with a different version of Sync than you have, I guess, but if I hook my Android phone up via the USB-C port, Google Maps automatically displays on the screen.

No doubt the manual is not the best I've ever seen - but like everything lately you get less for more - effort and product. Probably had some proprietary AI system spit it out to save some overhead. Just my thoughts and maybe not yours.

Years ago when I worked in the automotive business (parts dept) when someone wanted a shop or owners manual that wasn't in print anymore we would send them to Helm Inc or we would order for them. https://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp? They were pretty good and seemed to match the old factory manuals. Because I prefer a hard copy I ordered the owners manual for my 25 Lariat. It looks like they just converted the PDF to a paperback novel size book. Some of the pages assume I can click something. Dissapointing.

The printed '24 manual from Ford is pretty much the same way.

I looked at the digital manual on my center console. These are the pages on Recreationally Towing my 2025 Maverick AWD Hybrid.

The 2025 Ford.com online version is correct.
