I was thinking. I’ve been told the problem with the charging pad is heat, caused by induction. Well, directly under the pad in the center console is the duct that sends conditioned air under the driver seat to the rear cabin. If you can send airflow to the backseats, why not divert some to the charging pad? That could be a solution for the summer problem and you could bring in outside air for the cooler months. But heck, I’m no Ford Engineer. Just thinkin’

Not worth the trouble. Low watt inefficient charger.

Just get a decent fast charger and plug it into the back of the console.
Much faster, no heat. I do use my wireless pad for my Samsung Buds/Buds 2.

All wireless chargers produce noticeable waste heat in my experience.
Ford doesn’t seem to publish specs for the pad anywhere, but, like many wireless qi chargers, if you have a case with a relatively thick back on your device, you will almost certainly experience worse wireless charging speed than if you were using a thinner one or no case at all.
If you’ve got an iPhone with a MagSafe-compatible case that will also result in additional waste heat as the metal ring in the case catches some of the inductive current from the charger. Even without a case, there will often still be more waste heat produced when charging MagSafe devices due to the magnetic ring. MagSafe chargers generally work around the loss by simply pushing a bit more inductive current than Qi chargers, but as for the heat you’ll get some with any inductive charging on any device anyway

My Verizon phone guy told me any surface charger will shorten a phones battery life significantly. I’d love it if someone could tell me what fuse to pull so I could lay my IPhone 16 pro there without charging it.

Do you know how many watts the Maverick charger is? I just installed an aftermarket charger that is actually made for the Bronco in my Maverick. It has two little fans on the bottom side designed to dissipate heat and is 15 watts. So far seems to be working OK. My phone is warm. ( I’m in Phoenix, 113 degrees today. Everything is warm) and it is charging pretty well. Not as fast as plugging in. But good enough. It was during that install that I noticed the duct work right there and contemplated drilling a hole to direct a little air to the new charger. It couldn’t hurt.

I don't see a spec listed in the manual, between 5-15 watts, I'd guess closer to 5.

Mine can barely, if able to, maintain the current charge when using Android auto, and gets pretty hot.

My XLT didn’t come with an installed charger but Ford still molded the outline of a phone in both the console and the tray liner. So of course I felt neglected and had to have one. I thought I had outsmarted them by buying a fast charger and plugging it in my USB port but it did get hot and started leaking some kind of fluid. Not good. Also, I didn’t like wasting the USB port with a wire going to it. So while having to do some modification to the Maverick by cutting a hole in the console tray to accommodate the after market charger, I’m happy so far with its performance. Time will tell.

But Verizon will sell you a wireless charger pad, hummm
Oh yeah If I take my phone out of its pelican case it will charge with minimal surface heating.
But no one is going to do that.

I was just looking at the owners manual, maybe this fuse 18? Says it is for the "Wireless accessory charging module"

I have two passive chargers in my home and they don’t heat my iPhone 14 pro like this Maverick pad does. I’ve turned off the bluetooth and CarPlay and removed the Otterbox charger friendly case and the phone still gets hot in the truck’s charging tray but stays cool in the house with those things on. All signs point to Ford needing a fix. I won’t use it as the phone gets really hot m, I mean REALLY hot. 🔥

You actually listen to the high school drop outs that take the counter jobs at Verizon stores? They wouldn't know squat if Google didn't tell them what to say.

Let me know what happens. I've been using the charging for awhile now on my commute and my iPhone does get quite warm by the time I get to work (~40 mins). Took a much longer trip last week (~3 hours) and the iPhone shut down saying it was too hot. I've also been having problems with the connectivity to CarPlay when I get close to work which I assume is due to some RF interference coming from one of the two close by stadiums or the train yard, causes Carplay to reboot and stop working every time. So I'm thinking of just going back to a wired connection hoping all those issues will go away but I don't want the wireless charging active anymore as that is a convenient place to put the phone...

There is a switch to turn off "Fast Wireless Charging" in the battery settings of Android phones. That won't disable wireless charging entirely, but it may help prevent overheating.
