Maybe I’m wrong in my assumption and please correct me but I was on the Ford site and it showed the connectivity package as a yearly charge. Does that mean you have to pay for fordpass app features like remote start??
Or is that a totally different thing.

Totally different thing.

Truck talks to Ford servers thru ATT network via modem.
Servers talk to FordPass.
Your remote truck stats and control goes back thru that.

End of drive park also uploads some data - tire pressure, mileage, fuel tank, trouble codes, ect.
Also pulls down OTA updates if enabled by you.

So there's a modem sitting with access to ATT cell network - not really used much.
And there's a wifi connection in truck for your phone anyway.

So why not sell you access to ATT for extra things like navigation and map updates that doesn't require your phone, and provide a hotspot for your phone to connect to via wifi, and kids tablets for backseat movies.

But if your phone always has signal, perhaps better network where you live, and you connect it for navigation anyway, and no kids tablets, or your phone could do hotspot for them - then you may have no need for Ford's service.

So their free year to entice you didn't work.
Or maybe it did.

Ok so it’s two different things.
Just was worried about them eventually charging us for the fordpass and have to pay for remote starts like most other companies.

Oh - that doesn't mean that may not happen.
I'm sure ATT gave a good deal, but didn't give Ford free access with just the potential of selling owner subscriptions to make money.
I'm guessing there aren't that many sub's from the free trial.
Eventually they may request more money.

Currently different but the car world has been moving toward more subscription type services and upcharges for what was once considered normal services. In 2026, Ford now charges $495 to Mache E owners to have access to their frunk. Imagine owning a vehicle with a storage area you can't access unless you pay $495. It's crazy!

You mean like with Toyota where I have to pay monthly for remote start and use of navigation? :)

Navigation is at least not an issue with my Maverick since my trim doesn't come with it. I just use Carplay.

I'm not even using the free trial of connectivity that came with my truck. There is no point in it. I use CarPlay.

I'm sure that's on their agenda. The lobsters are in the pot and my, it's getting warm in here...

Well almost. From what I’m reading, the ‘frunk’ space is not built into the car unless you purchase the frunk option at which point the frunk cavity is installed.

With that, as Tom Petty said:
….
All the boys upstairs want to see
How much you'll pay for
What you used to get for free….

Still, the whole world is trying to squeeze more dollars out of us. And the auto-world is leading the pack.

Bluescruise is a hand-free driving option in some Ford vehicles. It is an annual subscription to have it. something like $795 annually.
It’s already in the vehicle but it needs to be ‘turned on’ with your subscription.

Sad days.

I don't know about happier but we are definitely living longer. Statistics are global. Because cell phone usage and the internet is pretty much global.

Post cell phone and internet.
Globally, the average life expectancy in 2024 is 73.4 years.😁

Pre cell phone and internet.
In 1950 *average predicted Global life expectancy for men was much lower at around 50 years.😱

* Be thankful. If you're reading this and you were born in the 50's. You've beaten the average.👍

The 50 year lifespan jumped out at me as being too low and I was correct:

What was the average lifespan for an American male born in 1950?

About 65.6 years.

That’s the period life expectancy at birth for U.S. males in 1950 (CDC/NCHS historical life tables). For context, females were about 71.1 years and the total population about 68.2 years. Note this is a period estimate using 1950 mortality rates; the actual average age at death for the 1950 male birth cohort will be higher due to later medical and public‑health improvements and isn’t fully known yet.
Edit:
Oh wait, you said GLOBAL.

Yes, I did say global.
We are living longer even if you just say the U.S.
As a matter of fact due to cell phones and internet folks can now double check prescriptions.
Or their Doctors Orders.
When I was laying in the hospital waiting for the doctors to take out my seeping gallbladder. I watched a video on the procedure beforehand. I had to laugh when the doctor came in and started drawing on a piece of paper what he was going to do. I turned my phone around and showed him the video, I said is this it?
The Internet and cell phones are global.
Even fairly primitive Amazon tribes are into the internet and social media.

Not to to mention using the internet to save money. Here's a good example. I have to replace one of my whole house filtering units.
I can buy it locally at Tractor Supply for $70
A little cheaper $50 at a local Ace
OR
Order from Amazon for less than $33
Almost $40 savings by using the internet.
