Android Auto wireless question here. At present I am about 7 months into the 1yr complimentary Premium Connectivity program and on the screen it indicates it is active until May 2026. Prior to Dec 5 I had a Samsung phone which brought up Android Auto once I got into the vehicle. It used Waze (which I of course have on my phone and is my preferred navigation app). It worked fine and I was able to specify locations to drive to and most of the time it worked wirelessly. Sometimes it was necessary to connect via USB for route information to populate. Throughout that time mobile data on my phone was disabled.

A few weeks back I replaced my Samsung phone with a new Motorola phone and paired it with the vehicle successfully. Now when I get in the vehicle it asks me to unlock the phone prior to bringing up Android Auto. That is tolerable step but not preferred. The big problem is that Waze no longer is able to determine a route. It churns and churns and comes back indicating an Error. In the bottom left of the Android Auto screen it says Offline. I have all the Permissions set as in my old phone. On the phone it indicates I am connected to the Ford network. I finally contacted Ford Help. They walked me through deleting the old and new phone and re pairing the new phone. During that process the rep indicated that I needed to turn mobile data on in my phone since the Premium Connectivity package does not include Internet data but only includes some additional Ford provided features. Sure enough when I activate my phone mobile data, Waze works fine and is able to determine a route. It works via USB and Wirelessly.

After hanging up with the rep I brought up the details of what was included in the Premium Connectivity and in reviewing it, it sure seems to indicate Internet connectivity is
included as I had always assumed. (It would not be much of a "connectivity" package if it did not provide Internet access to use things like Waze and Messages.)

Has anybody else been successful in using a Motorola phone with Waze in the vehicle. if so any suggestions on what it is I am missing that is preventing this from working without enabling mobile data on my phone?

You need to use your mobile data for Waze. It may have operated on the Samsung without current conditions, ie accidents and rerouting. How much is data? $35 unlimited with verizon. I am not an expert on this, I just play one on forums.

Alrighty thanks, guess that confirms the Ford Connectivity package does not really connect. Not sure then what it does provide. If I am not mistaken I believe the Ford Rep indicated the "Ok Ford"and " Alexa" apps could still be used without it once it expires in May 2026.
Anyway not sure then why my Samsung phone worked for route planning when my mobile data was not activated. I assumed it was using the active Ford Connectivity package.
I have a Trac Fone and have not purchased data in a few years. When I did I think it was $10 gig if I recall correctly. Typically I only access the web when I am on a wireless network. My latest TracFone was $45 and came with a TracFone 365 day plan, Unlimited text, Unlimited minutes and 1 GB of data. I don't use the cellphone much, pretty much just for emergencies. The yearly Tracfone plan is something like $125 a year. For the last 7 or 8 years I buy a new TracFone from QVC or HSN for less than $75 a year. It always includes a 365 day plan with 1000 texts, 1000 minutes, and 1GB of data. As I hardly use the allotted text and phone minutes it just rolls over and gets added to my new plan each year. Last year it actually included unlimited text and unlimited phone minutes. That was carried over to my new phone as well as whatever data of the 1 GB I had left over. Works just fine for me given the limited usage the phone gets. So, I was planning on just paying the $10 a month or so for the Ford Connectivity package with the belief it would allow me to wirelessly use Waze for trips.

Did you download the Ford app to the new phone and connect the service to your truck?

Pairing the phone and connecting through the Ford App (required to use the wifi) are two different things.

Yes I loaded the app on the Motorola phone and logged into it to make sure it worked. On the truck I verified that my Ford Connectivity program was active through May of 2026

What I d

What I dId not realize is that the Ford Connectivity Program and the AT&T Hotspot are 2 separate and distinct programs. Now that I realize that, I still don't understand how my previous phone worked with Waze on Android Auto wirelessly despite not having my phone mobile data on and not having a hotspot on the truck active.
The phone is recognized by the truck and Android Auto comes up and Waze starts. I see the map and that is fine. The only situation is the fact that it cannot calculate a route.....always indicates it is offline.
