Have had my cactus grey maverick almost a year, well in dec a year...16k miles...NO paint issues...of course I don't tailgate trucks, rigs, trailers...and when I see them, I pass them swiftly to avoid road debris...no complaints here.

"Please please please do not pay someone to ceramic coat your Mav. You can do it yourself and achieve the same (if not better) results especially if you take the time to clay bar it ahead of time."

Time vs money. I used to detail in my teens for a shop and since then always DIY, but because I learned techniques and have done a decent job keeping up with new products and techniques. I also do it on the side for friends and referrals. Even on a brand new vehicle like my Mav (if/when that arrives lol!) it will take me at least 3+ hrs to fully protect it. Got crappy/scratched/oxidized paint? Could be MUCH longer. Some people would rather drop $xxxx to have someone else do it than take the chance or time needed to do it themselves.

"As others have pointed point - Ceramic coating does nothing to make the paint more durable or resistant to scratching or chipping. It's a hydrophobic coating that repels water, dirt, and mud. So your paint does get dirty it cleans off easy and looks great."

Correct. BUT, you must also take care to properly wash the vehicle and then add a "topper" of choice to keep that coating lasting up to or even beyond it's rated claim.

"Ceramic coating doesn't even assist or help with UV protection (the primary cause of oxidation in a clear coat finish) BUT it resists oxidation so well that it doesn't really need to."

Huh? There are plenty of professional and DIY grade coatings that absolutely DO add UV protection. A blanket claim like this is completely false.

"I do agree with the PPF on leading edges or high traffic areas of your car (Door sills, rocker panels, leading edge of hood, bumper potentially)."

Absolutely. Edges on PPF can be a bit annoying when looking up close, but for a daily driver, I'd absolutely recommend PPF. Just be sure to apply it BEFORE any coating and if you apply a coating over the PPF, make sure that the coating and PPF material are compatible.

"I wish they'd just spend a bit more on quality paint. All manufacturers."

Amen to that!

Maybe its just the Alto Blue, I have one chip that was down to the metal, another that was to the primer and a spot that looked like the clear coat was slightly flaking. I had to get some touch up paint to fix the spots, hopefully it doesn't rust out.

I can also change my own oil but pay someone else to do it. Others may be able to do it themselves and achieve a good look. I do not have the requisite skill nor the time.

If I was looking for total protection, I would have Line-X color match the entire truck. I just want the paint to look shiny for a little longer than it otherwise would. Given I work from home and it will spend the bulk of its time in a garage, I think a coat of ceramic is a good step in that direction. I have found it is easier to start clean than to get clean.
Maybe buy a Dodge! LOL.

As far as putting something on top your wrong. Car shows is a thing of mine. I see many top end show cars. They put wax on top of Klasse or ceramic coating. WHY Wax has a deeper luster for a really deep type of shine. Ceramic or Klasse makes it shiny and protects far better than wax but doesn't have the deepness wax does. So for car shows yes wax is on top. My experience with Klasse over about 20 years is it does protect from chips. Just started using ceramic coatings in 2020 so not sure about ceramics yet. But they seem to last longer than Klasse. Never had ANY stone chips since my honda crv 2001. Klasse did I believe protect it from them from the results i had. .

Ok so first off I'm not wrong dude. I just don't recommend doing that for reasons mentioned, but you physically can put a wax on top for car shows if your're simply trying to get a different shine. Also, there are products that accomplish this that are designed for coating use. Ammo NYC's Reflex Pro Finishing Wax is a great example that will probably outshine anything you're using. So yeah, I never said you can't, but you wouldn't want to. So you're wrong. You said you're not sure about ceramic coatings, well I am. I'm a professional so instead of just insisting that you know better because you go to car shows maybe you should ask questions as to why someone in a particular industry suggests certain things.

Most professions are not very good. Maybe you an exception to the rule. Car show guys do put wax on top. Follow the detail forums there are many. I talk to many at shows and what they DO. Professional s its a JOB to make money. Not be best of show for paint. So your knowledge on topper may not be as good as you think. Do you own any show cars? Do you enter any car shows to win prizes. Maybe you do maybe not. I don'r know you. Have you used Klasse? Not a ceramic . Have you seen results from keeping cars from getting stone chips using s acrylic coating.

I didn't say i know better but have been around long enough to see what topper show cars use. I think the winners for best paint at car shows might know a thing or two you might not.

It might be wishful thinking but maybe the switch from velocity blue to the atlas blue I have ordered could be because it is better(or at least less bad) paint.

One thing we have going for us is that we will likely only be washing the truck a few times a year so the dirt will likely hide any problems with the paint. :)

I will of course touch up things to prevent any problems with rust.

In ten years if the Maverick "looks like something the cat dragged in" we will take that as a badge of honor that we had a good time with it and we played hard with it. Sometimes I will see an pristine antique toy on the Antique Roadshow and I find those a bit depressing since they were never played.

Yes, yes and yes. Matter of fact the product used as an example is developed by one of the best concours detailers in the world. And car show guys usually don't know why they use the products they use. They use stuff their buddies say it's good and have little chemistry background of the products. Which is why you think klasse prevents rock chips. I have also prepped show cars and been going to car shows since I could barely walk. But you don't need my credentials, I was just offering some experience, but now you're doubling down on your ignorance and suggesting that I must not know what I'm talking about because I get paid to detail cars. Good luck man, I hope you win every car show, don't get any rock chips, and have fun detailing your vehicles. Ultimately that's what is most important. Whatever works for you, use it and use it often.

Now I understand what people are talking about when they say the paint on the Mavericks is crap. I had an overhead fluorescent light that I was changing the bulb and after I changed it it fell out and broke a couple feet from my Maverick. A few of the glass pieces ricocheted and hit my Maverick and chipped the paint in a number of spots. Ridiculous! I have more paint chips on the Maverick in the few months I have owned it than than the 11 years I owned my previous vehicle.
So you have convinced me to put on the paint protection film when I get mine in 2026, I ordered a 2023 Hybrid

I’ve had mine for nine months and 6k miles, with no coatings or even a wax job. The paint still looks perfect, with not a chip or scratch to be found.

I do plan to wax it soon, though.
I have a cyber orange scheduled for November. I was hoping the Tri-metallic would be a better paint. Since it costs $495!

Or maybe i'll just tell Ford I don't want it, get my deposit back and go get a damn 2022 or '23 Toyota Rav4 XSE hybrid. At least I know Toyota dishes out a quality product that is reliable for the long-term, especially on the highway.

From my experience Ram trucks still have pretty durable paint. Rams aren’t as hard to find as some other trucks. Ordering estimate is 3 months (if you don’t buy one on the lot).

Toyota is reliable, but their paint is just as soft as Honda and Subaru, so no guarantee that the OP won’t be disappointed in that area.
