I just gave my truck its first thorough cleaning and detailing and found a fairly prominent inclusion under the paint/clearcoat on my hood. I took it over to my dealer and they’re submitting a warranty claim to Ford to deal with it. I haven’t heard anything back yet (1 day later) but thought I’d share and see if anyone else experienced anything similar.

To address this, I imagine a body shop will have to sand the area back to metal and respray with primer, color, and clear coat, feathering it into the surrounding area.

I imagine the work will take a week minimum and am hoping to be given a loaner/rental during that time.

Is that a.....hole? I had a nice sized chunk of my hood gouged to bare metal by a piece of gravel/rock, and it was bright silver (aluminum). If yours is black, I suppose it might have something to do with the chemical reaction when they painted it or clear coated it or something. Just seems weird since the hood is aluminum.

It’s a raised “pimple” covered by paint and clear coat. The shadow you see from it indicates its prominence above the surface.

Ahh ok. Well I hope they take care of you! That does seem like a really prominent "booger". Wonder if it is some sort of welding slag or something.

Hi, John! Could you privately message us with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer so I can look into this paint concern? Thank you!

My guess is that because the hood is such a visible area, they would respray the entire hood and blend into the fenders. I can see that it would bother me too but I don't know if I'd want the front of the truck resprayed because of it.

I picked it up at night and it’s in a shadowy area near a crease. The dealer missed it during its delivery prep wash and I only saw it when giving it its first washing at home.

They will blend color just at that spot and re-clear the entire hood. I doubt they will touch the fenders.

Your truck, your choice, but I would not let them touch it unless they confirm hood removal, complete repaint/reclear, and bake process. Even then there is the risk of a slight color shade mismatch to the rest of the truck.

If you are particular on the looks of your truck, there is a good chance of a worse result after repairs, not to mention the "softer" refinish paint vs.the OEM process.

It sucks, but if it were me, I'd live with the pimple. Maybe try to score some free accessories for your trouble.

Good luck!

They will have it for much longer than 1 week.

I complained about factory paint defects and wavy doors on my 2022 Bronco and the warranty claim was to bondo wavy spots and repaint the whole side of the Bronco.

They asked to have the vehicle for 5-6 weeks.

EDIT: I declined, sold the Bronco, and ordered a MY23, then a MY24...and decided I just like my Tremor for now.

Welding Slag on Aluminum? I would figure they would have all the welding done before they brought in the hood, Just thinking here

I have 3 - 4 raised bubbles on the upper part of my rear drivers side door. My plan is to bring it to the dealership when I go in for my oil change and submit a warranty claim. I'm at 7,000 miles so far in my 2023 Mav.

I read somewhere on this forum, there are other(s) that have had paint issues as well.

I'd request an entire hood repaint.
any paint shop that doesn't have IR heaters to properly cure auto paint isn't worth consideration.
