Correct. If you try to lift the arms up while the wipers are parked, the arms will hit the hood and scratch the paint. Lots of modern cars are this way.
True my Subaru you could lift them no hood contact my kids 22 Charger GT AWD and my wives VW Atlas both hit the hood edge if you try i believe I KNOW the Atlas does I thought my kids Charger may also... I know the Maverick is my Maverick i just looked picked it up used also has that spot where the wipers can hit down to the metal..looks like im off for touchup paint.

If I lived in a state where it snows, after seeing this problem, I would install the clear door edge protector film on that area, in case I forgot to lower the wiper arms before starting my truck.

I found this today after washing my new Mav for the 1st time (1st really warm day this year) and seeing that the wipers don't clear the hood. said hmmm,
Lots of comments , but mostly its YMMMV.
The wife's brand new Subaru allows the wipers to be lifted if you wanted, but she gets the garage anyway. Some cars do, some don't , the parking lot at work always has some up , some down.
NY winters have nasty ice storms and we have our windshield covers for those days.
For me, I'll just stay home until it warms up.
