While there is a "cooling off period" law, I don't believe it applies to vehicle purchases. I understand this is due to the lost value on returning a now "used " vehicle.
You're right. I just looked into it a bit. Some states have such protections on cars, but overall there's no cooling off period on them. My mistake.

Don't doubt the price will rise in the second year but by then there will also be low-mile used Mavericks. I'd be fine with a gently used truck where someone else took the initial price hit. I haven't bought a brand new vehicle in over 40 years.
If we were talking about a Corolla, I'd be inclined to agree. But trucks and large SUVs hold their values exceptionally well. And newer models hold their values very well. I would expect that a one-year old base Maverick with 12,000 miles will sell for $19,000 - $19.500 instead of the $20,000 new price. Not exactly a huge initial price hit.

This brings up an interesting question. On a vehicle this cheap how low can the resale even go?

I’ve bought several new vehicles without driving them. I was never disappointed .

To me, that's where the REAL value of the Maverick shines. You could theoretically buy one, drive it for two years, sell it and nearly break even (minus sales taxes, of course). And if I'm right that the prices will go up in subsequent model years, you could even MAKE money on the whole transaction.

I'm sure there will also be demo vehicles available in due time where you'll be able to sit in, inspect, and possibly drive before your ordered Maverick gets here.
I hope to see one before it arrives. I like everything that I’ve seen and read. But before I reserved it, the dealer gave me piece of mind that I don’t have to take it. He didn’t want a deposit because if I didn’t like it, he would have to cut me a check. He said that he would have no problem selling it if I didn’t want it.

My dealer said he should have a demo truck by Sept, which from I've been reading most dealerships should be receiving a demo truck around the same time, if not sooner.

Couldn’t agree more. My last truck was 25 + years ago. GMC Sonoma. Loved the versatility but was only a 2 door. Grew out of it, then trucks became too big and was gas monsters. So drove cars ever since. 3 months ago I wasn’t even looking for a truck, Ford introduces the Maverick. Perfect fit for my daily needs.
Sat down with the dealer past weekend. He said they can’t keep up with reservations. Expects most if not all reservations will sale once they come in and they cannot order for inventory until reservations are taken care of, so he expects inventory to be slim for a while. My wife ordered one but is not 100% sure she will want when it arrives.
No loss for me as my $100 deposit is completely refundable. Dealer could care less if I end up buying, they know they will sell it.
Ford hit a grand slam here and their slogan of this truck is for those who didn’t know they needed a truck is spot on.
This. And to add to it, you could potentially buy the Maverick, drive it around for 6 months to a year and unload it for close to what you paid for it originally.

It could take sometime for the conductor chip industry to catch up to the auto industry demand. Even if does, the Maverick is in a unique segment with amazing gas mileage that could help hold its value for a long time to come.

I am by no means an expert, but boy do I love to speculate.

My first rig ordered. Well, I guess my Harley was. Like other folks here I worry about all the uncertainty in the supply chains. Who knows what's next?

The Mav is going to be a huge seller. I don't want to wait a year or more for the way I ordered it. Waiting chips away at the $$$ advantages for me.

When the Ranger was reintroduced I saw a pre-production model at one auto show, but it was off-limits for any type of inspection. I finally got to do a 'ride and drive' at another, and placed my order after that. In Texas, shows that had early 2021 regular dates were cancelled. But it looks like Fort Worth and San Antonio will have shows in November.

Absolutely right. I'm driving a 2011 Kia Forte with 165,000 miles on it. It used to be a peppy little thing, but it has gotten sluggish over the years. And the gas mileage used to be in the mid 30s, now it's in the mid 20s. It's reliable. All it needs is a new battery and for me to clean out the idle air control valve. But the used market is hot right now. If I do those two things to it, it should sell for over 3k rather quickly. Realistically, it should only sell for about 2k. The longer I have to wait for my Maverick, the more it hurts the value on my Forte.

Although I was able to take advantage of it, I’m afraid the used car bubble is only going to last as long as it takes the manufacturers to ramp production back up, and that is still unknown.

I think that's one of the big things Ford did right with the Maverick. They settled for an 8 inch display instead of a 12 inch display. They went with Sync 3 instead of Sync 4. All so they don't have to wait for semiconductors. They got out ahead of it.
