I'll also add I never received a confirmation email from Ford. I am interested now in adding the FX4 package. It's no big deal if it's too late but I'm not sure when that time comes when it's too late to modify the build?
When you get a VIN it will be too late from a dealer level. 02 priorities cannot be edited by a dealer. Prioritys 101-19 can.

I've never ordered a car before so I want to make sure this process is going how it should to avoid any delays. On Monday I placed an order and signed a buyer's guide. It had the base price of the car and the options written out but no price. The dealer got a copy of my license and took a $200 deposit. That has been it so far. What else should I expect? When should the dealer be contacting me? I just want to make sure this is going as smoothly as possible.

I have leased in the past and I believe the monthly payment includes tax. Basically, you pay tax on the amount from the sales price to the residual value.

I really don't want to have to walk away as I don't have a car right now. I had a 2019 Chevy Trax on lease. I had 12 months left and my plan was to get a Maverick when that lease was up. Since used car prices have gotten so ridiculous, I realized I could sell the Trax for a lot more than the lease payoff. I ended up selling it to a Chevy dealer for more than $4,000 than what the payoff amount was. I figured in 12 months I would never get $4,000 more and the Maverick likely wouldn't have $4,000 in reba the time being, I'm borrowing my dad's old minivan.
Great for you! Very few want to walk away but things can happen and just realizing you can walk if dude wants $$$ more just because it came in, just get him to sign his new offer or even (due to the way things are) pay him some or all of your "free" 4k extra you have. Then take all your notes, dealers business cards, etc to attorney, pay him $10 +% telling him all the stress, loss of gf, etc this has cost you and ask " can you help me"?
Maybe he can. You have a car or if you didn't pay and get car then maybe dealer will be trying real hard to find one just like it. Good luck. Wintertime is almost here and people world wide will be scrambling to stay warm and will be burning any and everything to live. Will see real carbon emissions then.

I spoke to my salesman. The order has been submitted to Ford. He mailed an acknowledgement letter which I should be receiving possibly today. Sounds like it is in the queue to get built. He said he doesn't see any reason why I can't add the FX4 package now. He will submit that request and send out a new acknowledgement. He understood the ordering was going to come to a close soon so I'm glad he understood the sense of urgency.

What is the consensus for deposits on orders? Seems to be random from zero to thousands....?

I've noticed it varies by dealership. The dealer near me doesn't charge a deposit but I don't particularly care for them so I went with this dealer since my family has had good experiences with them. My salesman said the deposit is refundable if and when they sell the truck. It's $200 so I'm not too worried about it.

I'll probably be surprised if this truck arrives by the end of the year, if it rolls into 2022, what are the chances Ford will be offering rebates? My guess is zero but one can hope.

A little off topic, but what do we expect the depreciation to be? I'm thinking of buying it and putting $6,000 down. At roughly $29,000 sales price that is a little over 20%. Trying to determine what equity I would have after 3 years when the lease expires? Really don't have anything to go on given it's a new model. I'm beginning to think the hybrid would have a higher residual value.

In this market if you can buy at MSRP you should have immediate equity.

I sold my 2019 leased Chevy Trax for more than the sale price of the lease. The dealer who bought it put it on their lot for what the sticker price was brand new. Within two days, it was no longer on their website so I assume they sold it already. I cannot expect this market to continue. I think in 3 years paying 20% and making a healthy payment I should be good to have some decent equity to roll into something new if I want. I'm going through all this trouble to spec this car exactly the way I want so I may want to keep it.

No, I doubt this market goes on forever but it will probably persist at least through next year. It may even get worse.

Didn't receive the letter the dealer said they mailed yet. I still haven't received any email from Ford. Should I have by now? Does everyone receive an email?

I received my email confirmation from Ford by the time I got home from the dealer to sign the order. Is this significant? I have no idea....
